Conventional and Unconventional

Convention: “a rule, method, or practice established by usage; custom; accepted usage, especially as a standard of procedure.” One label that fits Jesus very well is congregation praying“unconventional”. “There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works like yours.” (Ps.86:8; also Jer.10:6; 1Sam.2:2; Deut.33:26; Ps.74:12; Job 5:9) Jesus’ disciples had observed Jesus praying and had observed the impacting redemptive results He got when He spoke to nature, disease and demons. When they asked Him to teach them to pray, He told them that they should ask for that which is in heaven to be moved into the earth (Matt.6:10). Needless to say, that which is conventional in heaven (God’s will) is going to be unconventional by earth’s standards, practices, methods, rules and usage. And yet, that is what our Lord instructed us to ask for.

Mentality for Change

PrayKneelingMoses had difficulty getting Israel out of Egypt — those slaves did not have a mental mode to fit their transformation. Transformation announces to us that now is the time for a change of mentality. A teenager was invaded by the word and Spirit of God. Her mentality for transformation changed quickly. Mary’s acceptance of the invasion of heaven was intoned in the submissive, “be it unto me according to thy word.” (Lk.1:38)

Change and Re-evaluation

It is not easy to be redefined or repositioned because change stirs up re-evaluation and self-examination that shakes our self-image.  If I have to change positions or titles, does that mean I was wasting my time before?  Not necessarily.  Holding a place until a season is fulfilled is part of the destiny process.  Have I failed and therefore have to be replaced?  No, being repositioned by the Spirit of God is about growth and effectualness, not failure.  Am I being demoted instead of promoted?  Paradigms and experience and old models may say “Yes,”  but if God is truly in charge, He is always about maturity and increase.  We can trust His title changes and redefining to position us for excellence and promotion in His Kingdom. (Tenth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Fresh Obedience”)

Change is Coming

For several years we have heard the church will not look the same in the future.  The one clarity in that proclamation is that change is coming.   The only way to embrace the right changes is to follow the specific directives of the Holy Spirit in our place of purpose.  The result will be new models emerging. (Kathy Gabler)

Transition and the Unveiling Process

As the people of God assemble today, may they realize that we are not through transitioning. In fact biblical principle, according to Phil 1:6, proclaims that as long as we are in this present age the transitioning to His Image will continue. “{For I am} confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” (NAS) If God is going to complete the work He has begun in us that means transition, it means process; it means a proceeding word from God that takes an unveiling process. May the people of God encourage one another that the fruit and the benefit are worth the process.

Continuing to Choose Life

Chooselife(By Kathy G.) Some cocoons (entrapped, tough times in life) are common for many people, but we also have our customized cocoons, those tough times that are unique to us.  These come from matters that need resolve in our soul, like you may be having to work on a relationship that was damaged by jealousy or fear or anger.  Or you may be having to deal with problems you inherited, ongoing battles from choices made four generations ago.  Perhaps your forerunners  didn’t choose life and blessings and it caused  them to end up with a view of marriage that’s bound to fail.  So the next generation has to work through the trickle-down issues of divorce.  Or a generation made wrong career choices and bankrupted the whole family causing  poverty  conditions and limitations for decades.  Or a generation chose death and curses, deciding to be lawless, and the ripple effect undermined character to the point that a family or community or culture is cocooned in corruption. Can our struggles really be related to our purpose and our future when we can’t see any connection to either? We need to CHOOSE LIFE and bring CHANGE in our lifetime, and even expect change to ripple back to the previous generation.

A Change-Agent’s Life

RenewMind(Melissa G.) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2) That’s a Change-Agent’s life right there.  We PROVE the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.  How? By changing our thought habits.  We meditate on God’s will, His original intent for this earth.  We stop fixating on the enemy’s war around us by realizing his war has intensified because he is feeling the pressure of this never-ending Kingdom in Luke 1.  We turn our thoughts toward that powerful fact.  We engage in power, love, and a sound mind by dumping fear-thoughts that have wreaked havoc (2 Timothy 1:7).  This is all possible in our lifetime!

Keenly Watchful to Detect Danger

Alarmclock(Melissa G.) Yes, it has come to this: Be vigilant – keenly watchful to detect danger; ever awake and alert; sleeplessly watchful. (dictionary.com) Let me go ahead and say, this is not a “you deserve a spanking for allowing the world to go down the toilet” article.  Rather this article is aimed at being an alarm clock to wake up God’s sleeping giants to war! Is that you? Well, you’re the one reading this right now, and that is NO COINCIDENCE! So, here’s your wake up call, you beautiful heavenly-Change-Agent, you! What is a heavenly Change-Agent? It’s one who makes a difference wherever they are because they carry Heaven in them.  When I say Heaven, I mean one who carries the original intent of God wherever they go.  What is God’s original intent? Heaven on earth, a Kingdom without end (Luke 1:31-33).  The difference between our Change-Agents and the ones making the news right now is that we cause life, healing, peace, hope, restoration—not death and destruction!

Grief And Change

ButterflyBlueGrief can feel like the right thing to do.  We can get used to grief until it begins to feel “normal;” and normal is comfortable!  So, as hard as GRIEF is, CHANGE is harder.  True comfort will mean change of position and perspective and change of heart.  One of the original meanings of “shall be comforted” is 1) to call to one’s side, (Strong/Thayer).  As God calls us to His side, we CHANGE positions, moving from our view of the situation to God’s view or moving from our view of self  to God’s view of us. 2) “Shall be comforted” also means to speak to, instruct, to encourage, to teach.  We CHANGE from debating our cause to hearing the truth.  We CHANGE from reacting to feelings to responding to truth.

Resentment And Impotence

MichalWindow3.) MICHAL—Michal represents resentment toward change. She doesn’t leave; she stays around but everyone knows that she resents the changes that have taken place. Michal makes her resentment known to leadership and does what she can, through attitudes, to make them regret change. The tragedy is, however, that she is never able to add to what is going on – her resentment has left her unable to bear anything with life in it. She is impotent (2Sam.6:23).

Difficulties Of Change

GiantsTwo1.) GIANTS—Giants represent the difficulties of change and the difficulties involved in making adjustments. When the 12 spies went in to spy out the promised land there were two different reports filed (Num 13:30-33). Caleb reported that the land was a “good land” and that they were able to take it. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it (Num 13:30). However, there were others who noticed the giants (v. 33-Heb.: bully, tyrant) in the land and decided that, even though the land was flowing with milk and honey, the difficulties this change offered were not worth the effort. If they could have walked in without any difficulties or having to make any adjustments, they would have voted to go into the promised land.

Signs And Wonders

Signs And Wonders (Kathy Gabler)
The words translated miracle or sign or wonder are, for the most part, interchangeable in the Bible. A working definition is: displays of the supernatural in this natural realm.

That is encouraging in one way because that implies one reason we don’t see signs and wonders is because we don’t SEE them, even though they are on-going. How many of the 5000 plus that were eating on the hillside realized their lunch was a miracle? I’m thinking a good percentage didn’t have a clue! How many thousands of people saw the same star as the three kings, but didn’t know it was a sign and a wonder? When David saw Goliath, he wasn’t looking for a miracle! He was just looking for a rock! However, there were miracles (plural) in the mix that day, beyond the anointed impact of a rock from a sling. The whole scene was a miracle of timing, circumstance and possibly Goliath choosing the wrong helmet that day! Someone who is trained in CPR can easily fail to see the miracle of being in the right place at the right time to participate in the intervention of God in a situation. Isaiah 20:3, calls it a sign and wonder that Isaiah walked naked and barefoot for three years. I’m just not so sure his wife called that a sign and wonder!

We build definition boxes in our minds, then if supernatural interventions don’t fit in our box, we tend to miss it. I submit to you today that our thinking must change and is going to change. We cannot think as mere humans. We need Kingdom thinking as sons. Jesus said in John 14:12-13, “He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do.”
