The Cocoon and Current Events

Wow, what a way to begin an announcement: “Hey, guys, I have something very important to say here but first I must ask you to not be troubled of heart.” (Hint to the wise: this has something to do with the fact that things are not going to stay the same as they have been.) Jesus addresses His disciples at a momentous time, on a very important occasion to communicate to them the launching of a new era that was immediately upon them and in which they would take the lead. “DO NOT let your hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). You believe in and adhere to and Cocoononlimbtrust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me.” (Jn.14:1, Amp)  Jesus announces His transitioning to another level and their transitioning to total dependency upon Holy Spirit to do what He has been doing while with them. Suddenly they realize their Lord’s necessary urging to not let their heart be troubled. Everything was changing and would never go back to being the way it was. They were launching upon a new era in their individual lives, a new era in the ministry of the disciples (the church-“ekklesia” Mt.16:18) and they were doing it with pressure from every side under Roman domination and increasing resistance to their belief system. But the cocoon they had been in was being exposed to current events and the current events were helping the cocoon to expose/present what was on the inside. Jesus’ shifting to His next stage of fulfillment in Father’s plan was propelling them forward so that the ekklesia could be realized for what it was actually meant to be in current events, and that involved their stepping out and relying on Holy Spirit to enable them to be “christianous” (Acts 11:26) or Christians — the followers of Christ who were, in fact, like the Christ, who were little ones like the big one. The inference is that those of the same name could be expected to be and do what the One is and does for Whom they are named. As they rolled with current events, Holy Spirit put them in places and circumstances to impact and influence current events. (Compare 1Jn.2:20 – “But you [plural] have an unction” (a divine enablement]) Circumstances are prime for cocoons (and old wineskins) to give way to what is inside being exposed for the impacting of current events for the advancing of the purposes of Father to glorify His Son.

Getting Past Irritations

ButterflyBlue1Getting past personal irritations and any sense of injustice and all the frustrations that are like prickly fibers in a cocoon to align with God’s word and His ways can get difficult.  Deut. 30:11 confirms that in verse 11 even before verse 19 tells us to choose life.  Deut. 30:11— This commandment, that I’m commanding you today is not TOO difficult for you, it isn’t TOO much for you, it’s not out of your reach.  12  It’s not on a high mountain–you don’t have to get mountaineers to climb the peak and bring it down to your level and explain it before you can live it.  13  And it’s not across the ocean—you don’t have to send sailors out to get it, bring it back, and then explain it before you can live it. 14  No. The word is right here and now—as near as the tongue in your mouth, as near as the heart in your chest. (Msg) So, difficult or not, choose life.  Just do it!

Conquering Choice

MakingChoicesHunters who go after the Big Five in Africa have to take “enough gun” to bring down their powerful prey.  Likewise, we need to understand the personal war in a life cocoon so that we “carry enough gun” and do not show up with a BB gun for a tank fight.  The most effective weapon that we have for life’s many Cocoon-Conquering-Quests is CHOICE.   Deut 30:19—  I have set before you life and death, [Life if you dig out of the cocoon and death if you stay in it ], the blessings and the curses; therefore CHOOSE LIFE.

Future Beyond the Cocoon

ButterflyCocoonIt is a well known fact that it will cripple a butterfly if, for any reason, their cocoon is opened prematurely.  It’s essential that they stretch and strain and develop through their tough place in order to have the strength it takes to fly in the future.  If we don’t, for some reason, process through our tough places we won’t have the character, changes, revelation, stamina, skills and strength that we need for our future.  Cocoons are simply not optional, process is key to change and growth.  If you are in one of your life-cocoons right now, be it physical, mental, circumstantial, relational or financial, oxygen and change and resolve are reachable.  Be encouraged, you do have a future beyond it.

In Cocoon Times

CocoonHangingPsalm 139:16 (Paraphrased): “When I had not yet existed for even one moment, I was commissioned by God’s purpose.  Before I was even wrapped as an embryo in my mother’s womb I was marked and approved by God’s eternal wisdom and greatness.”  As surely as we were in the womb being transformed to come forth as a living being, reflecting the likeness of our natural fathers, we are in “cocoons” in life being transformed to reflect the likeness and character of our heavenly Father.  What I mean by “cocoons” in life is the tough, tight places in life, times when we are caught in a web of circumstances or conditions that have us hot and bothered, barely able to breathe and can’t see a way out.  In “cocoon times”, we can either walk in faith and keep doing what we know to do and realize God is going to utilize it for our growth and development, or we can try to run and escape . . . maybe for an entire lifetime.   Or we can take a machete to the thing, pitch a fit and tear up jack!  (Of course that very rarely fixes real-life situations and usually makes them worse!)  The bottom line is we only do damage when we refuse to change as needed.
