Looking Beyond The Giants To Promise

When wading into war became obvious on the present course of progress, 10 spies decided to change course for a whole nation and a whole generation. Not desiring to deal with any difficulties, they began to yell, “Giants!” Taking that lead in opposition to the will of God became very costly for them – much more costly than the war which was waged for the promised land (Num 32:13). But Caleb’s response to the opposition was, “We are able to overcome it.” Caleb and Joshua, who gave the good report, were the only two out of that generation who possessed the promised land.

Contend For The Word

Do you have a word or promise of God that has not come to pass in your life? Then (1) CONTEND—Deut.2:24 “begin to possess… and contend”; “contend”: to excite oneself against a foe, (2) WAGE WARFARE— 1Tim.1:18 “wage the good warfare”: expedition, campaign, (3) HEED—2Pe.1:19 “…the prophetic word which you do well to heed”: to attach oneself to; to be given to or addicted to; to devote thought and effort to. Seems that while we are expecting God to do it all, there is a considerable amount we can be doing.

Change And Adjustments For Destiny
In the Bible God gives us the example of a young teenage boy with very limited abilities. He shows us this David who will not tolerate the bullying and tyrant posture of opposition to the will of God. Courage accompanies purpose. When we do not understand God’s purpose and God’s ways, not only will giants intimidate and prevent us but anything which poses as a possibility of change or adjustment in our comfort zones. When we receive a prophecy, the elements of that prophecy will require adjustments in some area. From the moment David received his prophecy, his life was in continual change being propelled toward destiny. Consider the story of Joseph’s life if you still have questions about change and adjustments.

Resurrected Because There Was More To Come
As the people of God assemble today may they fix their eyes on Jesus who endured the cross, despised the shame and is now set down at the right hand of the throne of God. May they know that Jesus rose from the dead because there was more to come.
“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Heb.12:1-2, NAU)

Death Could Not Erase
Why were dead people walking about in the streets of Jerusalem? “The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.” (Matt 27:52-53, NAU) Because of Jesus the answer is in Heb.11:13—“All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.” They were awaiting their resurrection. They had already received the promise of resurrection, they had already lifted their eyes and not even death could erase what they had seen.

Opposition And Advancing
It seems that some in the church have always had a theology that says something can’t be God if there are any difficulties involved. We want confirmation from God in the form of ease. We look for Gabriel and the boys to come and play us a few verses of “Onward Christian Soldiers” before we are willing to deal with difficulties. It may actually be more in line with scriptural example if we were to watch for satanic opposition as a sign of confirmation that we are on the right track. When Jesus told His disciples to get into the boat and go to the other side of the lake, a great wind rose against them and just about sank them! Actually, the scripture puts it this way, “the wind was contrary” (Mt 14:24). Nothing seemed to be working in their favor, yet it was the will of God for them to proceed, advance, adjust.

God Equips Us Before
While thinking about recent events I had to deal with, the scripture Isaiah 54:17 “no weapon formed against you will prosper” came up again. This time, however, I saw it differently. I think a lot of times this is used as a defensive scripture when really it is an offensive scripture! God equips us for the weapon BEFORE, not after, it is formed against us. The reason the weapon doesn’t prosper is because He already set countermeasures in place prior to its launch. He already equipped you with everything necessary to walk out of this battle in tact. That, my friends, is an offensive scripture loaded for battle!

Difficulties Of Change
1.) GIANTS—Giants represent the difficulties of change and the difficulties involved in making adjustments. When the 12 spies went in to spy out the promised land there were two different reports filed (Num 13:30-33). Caleb reported that the land was a “good land” and that they were able to take it. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it (Num 13:30). However, there were others who noticed the giants (v. 33-Heb.: bully, tyrant) in the land and decided that, even though the land was flowing with milk and honey, the difficulties this change offered were not worth the effort. If they could have walked in without any difficulties or having to make any adjustments, they would have voted to go into the promised land.

That We May Lead A Quiet Life
If such an outcome were not possible, we would not be instructed by our Lord to pray this way: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1Tim.2:1-2, NKJV)

Respond To The Intimidation
The spirits that Goliath, Athaliah and Michal characterize are still operating in these days. The point of difficulty we reach in dealing with these spirits is that they employ likely human personalities to most effectively intimidate those pressing forward in change. Individuals and church groups will both face the sting of these characters as we come closer to realizing our destiny. It is the human voice that is intimidating pastors and leaders into digressing from what they joyously began walking in just a few short years ago. The threat of financial loss and the loss of membership are strong factors of intimidation and discouragement that the enemy is using. We must face these facts, identify the facts and scripturally respond to the intimidation.

Forms Of Opposition
This passage of scripture (“But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.” —2Sam 5:17) gives us the general idea that we, like David, are being opposed as we move forward with God and embrace the changes He is taking us through. In this article I want to show you four forms this opposition will take: 1) Giants represent the difficulties of change. 2) Athaliah represents that which attempts to prevent change. 3) Michal represents those who resent change. 4) Sanballat represents change being misrepresented.

Considering The Coming Generation
When considering the coming generation who have set their hearts
on the Lord, instead of fearfully asking: What is going to happen to
Daniel, or to Joseph or to David?
Perhaps we should be expectantly asking: What is going to happen
to Babylon, Egypt and Goliath?
”Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me!
We are for signs and wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts,
Who dwells in Mount Zion.” (Isa.8:18, NKJV)

Too Dangerous
Some people in the Bible had similar experiences with attacks and opposition. When the tribes of Israel got together and anointed David king, the Philistines went searching for him to take him out of the picture. “But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.” (2Sam 5:17). They realized that they had passed up a great opportunity to destroy David and now intended to correct their mistake. Now that the anointing had come upon David for his destiny, he was too dangerous. So, a concerted effort was mounted to remove him from any possible scenario which would bring Israel to the victorious state which God’s word had prophesied.

It Is The Growing Season
On the way to church Sunday morning I noticed many plants coming up out of the ground. From just a seed, they had pushed their way through the resistant soil. That seed could not be seen down in the ground but it was there developing and pushing and coming up. As the seed began to sprout, the tiny plant began to push and push toward the light. There is an unseen pathway that leads from the seed to the surface of the ground where the light has drawn it so that it might grow, mature and bring forth the plant, the tree, the fruit that the seed had in it all along; it just needed to push along that unseen path and extend into the light to be able to release what was in it all along. We are going to see seeds come forth that were planted in our lives, the lives of family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, former church members. A seed came into existence to grow, not just sit and do nothing. It is the growing season—expect the seed to grow.
“But as for that [seed] in the good soil, these are [the people] who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in a just (noble, virtuous) and worthy heart, and steadily bring forth fruit with patience.” (Lk.8:15, Amp)

No Change Without Opposition
Has anyone recently felt as though they are under attack? In the Kingdom of God there is no such thing as change without opposition. We are now in an unprecedented time of history when change is a frequent factor in the lives of those in the Kingdom of God. I have had people tell me that before they came to Christ their lives were not all that much of a struggle but since beginning to follow the Lord they have been in one spiritual battle after another. When we accept Jesus, we are inducted into the army of God. He puts a robe of righteousness on us and armor which become a conspicuous uniform identifying which army we belong to. When we receive a prophecy and begin to walk it out or when we begin to hunger for the things of God which we have never experienced, we become a nuisance to that which prefers to perpetuate the status quo. The enemy of the people of God knows that to let us go unhindered is to consent to defeat without a struggle. His most effective, time-proven weapons are intimidation and discouragement.

Harvest With New Strategies
As the people of God assemble today may they look
upon the fields that are white unto harvest.
May they look upon them with love and compassion
and with new and effective strategies.

Candidates To Participate
Even before the resurrection, the sea water had its normal density and the body of Jesus had its proper density, yet Jesus walked on water (Matt.14:26). This LORD of the many-layered wisdom of God (Eph.3:10) is not bound by dimensions, nor by the poverty of human experience, nor by the laws of gravity or mass. Therefore, the advancing of His Kingdom and the sons of that Kingdom are candidates to participate in what their King has set up.
”Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isa.9:7)

Lead Us Not Into Temptation
“And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil” (Matt.6:13. . . At first glance, this sounds like this is asking God not to tempt us when James 1:13, tells us that God tempts no man to evil. So a son wouldn’t suspect his Father of doing that. One of the meanings of temptation here is adversity. Neither would sons ask Father to keep us from adversity, because a mature son knows better than to expect not having to grow in character through overcoming. I think The Message may have captured the heart of this phrase: Mat 6:13 Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. One of the meanings of the Greek word translated here as “not” is “lest,” which means “for fear that.” That would lend this phrase to say, “Father lead us and deliver us from evil for fear that we will fall to temptation if You don’t.” And as a son with that understanding, my prayer would be in agreement, “May I live my life today showing that I am not under the dictates and influence of temptation because I am delivered from the evil one”. I can pray that with confident expectation because Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory. Therefore, we pray as sons, knowing our Father has, and always will have, the prevailing governmental order and the authoritative power and the ultimate manifestation of His every intent . . . forever.

Basic Good Sense
May the Lord give us wisdom and basic good sense to not give out any personal information that we do not have to give out. May we be able to make sound decisions and do without something, if necessary, to prevent releasing any information that would give a thief advantage.
“For skillful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you. 11 Discretion shall watch over you, understanding shall keep you, 12 To deliver you from the way of evil and the evil men, from men who speak perverse things and are liars, 13 Men who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, 14 Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, 15 Who are crooked in their ways, wayward and devious in their paths.” (Prov.2:10-15, Amp)

Investing In Our Future
Forgiveness is an investment in your future. It is not about staying saved or deserving, it is about investing wisely. And forgive us our debts AS we forgive our debtors is a declaration that we understand Father’s governing principle and we know our personal responsibility in living it out. I have to think God was emphasizing a consistent and continuous release that forgiveness brings, a continual unfettering of others to unfetter ourselves from our issues, a continual coming to freedom and deliverance to live as God intended, free to be who we were born to be for our Father’s glory.
