Days of Justice
KATHY—Days of Elijah are days of justice. In 1Kings 18, Elijah told them to seize the “prophets of Baal and not let a man of them escape. And they caught them, and Elijah brought them down to the Kishon and killed them there.” The justice was public and did not end there on Mt. Carmel. In the following chapters “The LORD told Elijah to appoint Hazael to be king of Syria and appoint Jehu to be king of Israel and appoint Elisha to take his place as prophet. Hazael was to start killing the people who worship Baal. Jehu was to kill those who escape from Hazael, and Elisha was to kill those who escape from Jehu.” Jezebel died when Jehu had her thrown from a window of Jezreel’s palace, and her body was eaten by dogs. Justice continued in the next generation when King Ahab’s sons were beheaded and their heads piled at the gates of Jezreel.
As our days mirror the days of Elijah in so many details, (more than those listed in this article), may we be encouraged that we too will see the called of God follow the Lord’s directions and take down corrupt entities and willful evil, both now and in generations to come. And may we see the power and original design of God manifest in our homes and nations, both now and in generations to come. (This is the last of the excerpts from Kathy’s SEEC Magazine article “Days of Elijah”. You may read this article in its entirety at this link: martygabler.com/articles/ )

Elijah De-Masking the Troublers
Kathy—Days of Elijah were days of de-masking the troublers who projected their blame on others. After three years of no rain, there was almost nothing to eat anywhere and the LORD said to Elijah, “Go and meet with King Ahab. I will soon make it rain.” So Elijah went to see Ahab. When Ahab saw Elijah he shouted, “There you are, the biggest troublemaker in Israel!” Elijah answered: “You’re the troublemaker, not me! You and your family have disobeyed the LORD’s commands by worshiping Baal. Call together everyone from Israel and have them meet me on Mount Carmel. Be sure to bring along the four hundred fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who eat at Jezebel’s table. Ahab got everyone together, then they went to meet Elijah on Mount Carmel. Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How much longer will you try to have things both ways? If the LORD is God, worship him! But if Baal is God, worship him!” The people did not say a word. The masks were off!

But God Times
Kathy—The Days of Elijah are “BUT GOD” times. “Bring me your son,” Elijah said. Then he took the boy from her arms and carried him upstairs to the room where he was staying. Elijah laid the boy on his bed and prayed, “LORD God, why did you do such a terrible thing to this woman? She’s letting me stay here, and now you’ve let her son die.” Even Elijah’s issues surfaced in this battle of life and death. Evidently shaken by the widow’s upset and shouting, the prophet spoke to God as if He was being unjust! “BUT GOD” was waiting on him to calm down and work a miracle. (Remember that in days of battle.) Elijah stretched himself out over the boy three times, while praying, “LORD God, bring this boy back to life!” The LORD answered Elijah’s prayer, and the boy started breathing again. Elijah picked him up and carried him downstairs. He gave the boy to his mother and said, “Look, your son is alive.” As the widow could testify, the days of Elijah undeniably manifest the Power of God on earth.

War-Torn Times
Kathy—Days of Elijah were war-torn times with fresh battles continually breaking out. Several days into the battle against lack and starvation, another battle broke out in the widow’s life. Her son got sick and kept getting worse until finally he died (1K.17:17). The woman shouted at Elijah, “What have I done to you? I thought you were God’s prophet. Did you come here to cause the death of my son as a reminder that I’ve sinned against God?” War has a way of bringing the struggles of a warrior’s heart to the surface. Not only was she battling for survival and the life of her son, an old enemy showed up too. Condemnation reared its ugly head and pushed the war-torn woman to the edge of hopelessness, anguish and anger that had her shouting at the prophet. Hopelessness can smother the fight in us and usually leads to a pit of self-examination and despair. The widow went there and decided that losing her son was due to her past sins. That thinking would have had her throwing up her hands and quitting . . . BUT GOD.

Shortages and Scarce Supply
Kathy—Days of Elijah were times of shortages and scarce supply. The God-backed stand we take must pivot on obedience to God’s will and directions. After Elijah confronted the king, the Lord told him to leave and go hide near Cherith Creek. He was to drink water from the creek, and eat the food God told the ravens to bring him. Elijah obeyed the LORD and ravens brought him bread and meat twice a day. He drank water from the creek, but after a while, it dried up because there was no rain. The drought lasted over three years and everyone was affected. The shortages even reached Elijah, but so did God’s detailed plans and supernatural provisions. After the airmail deliveries stopped, the Lord told Elijah to go to Zarephath where a widow would give him food. At first the widow adamantly told him she couldn’t feed him because she was also in scarcity and lack. In fact, she was planning her last meal before dying, but there was Divine connection between Elijah’s lack and the widow’s shortage of supplies. That connection not only brought provision for both of them, it also revealed a supernatural resource for both of them. We too shall come through days of Elijah having experienced the miraculous of our God and His planned connections.

Confronting Powers That Be
Kathy—Days of Elijah were times of confronting governmental powers that be. Elijah showed up in 1 Kings 17 to confront the puppet king of Israel with a proclamation: “I’m a servant of the living LORD, the God of Israel. And I swear in his name that it won’t rain until I say so. There won’t even be any dew on the ground.” Beyond the forecast of a drought, it had to unnerve King Ahab that a man would get in his face and tell him, “I have the say so over your domain and over the weather warfare of your storm god, because I represent the higher government of God Almighty.” In these days of Elijah, whether we are dealing with dark forces at work against our home or community or region or nation or other realms, we can take a stand when we are convinced and confident that Almighty God is backing us.

Unshakeable Revelation
Kathy—In order to develop a working understanding of the term “ekklesia” we look to its first mention in Matthew 16. Leading up to this chapter, Jesus had already walked on water and fed the 5000 and delivered Legion from demons. So the reports of Jesus were spreading and crowds were gathering as He taught in open air meetings. This was the setting when He asked His disciples, “What are people saying about Me?” They answered, “Some people say you are John the Baptist or maybe Elijah or Jeremiah or some other prophet.” Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Simon Peter spoke up, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Peter’s answer showed that he had the revelation that Jesus is the Messiah that the Old Testament prophets had said would come and the Son of God Who was sent to be the Savior and Deliverer. Then Jesus said to him, “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am. (Matt. 16:17, Msg) In the next verse, Jesus said He would build His Church, His Ekklesia, His assembly of called out ones, with those who have that same unshakeable revelation of the Christ as The Messiah and Son of God, and these called out ones would be a company of people that hell cannot defeat or hold out against.

Digging In
Martin Luther said that prayer is not overcoming the reluctance of God but it is laying hold of the willingness of God. Why didn’t he say “finding the willingness of God”? There is a lot more in laying hold than in finding. You may find gold, but you have not laid hold of it until you have dug. Let us dig in and find His willingness. Js.5:17, TPT — “Elijah was a man with human frailties, just like all of us, but he prayed and received supernatural answers. He actually shut the heavens over the land so there would be no rain for three and a half years!”

He Breaks the Drought of Hopelessness
As the people of God assemble today may they encourage one another that where there is no cloud of provision there can be a cloud the size of a man’s hand the next time they go look and that the time they look after that, they can experience the rain of plenty provision that breaks the drought of hopelessness. “…and there was a heavy rain.” (1K.18:45a)

You Haven’t Seen Everything
Sometime back we were battling with considerable financial and physical matters. Every solution I could think of was blocked and I couldn’t see any resolve, even on the horizon. Through the course of those days it seemed that a sense of panic would creep up in my gut. Honestly, I had come to the conclusion that we were in a pit that was hopeless.
After wrestling with this insurmountable dilemma for about two weeks, and arriving at certain negative conclusions (trying to choke back panic and hopelessness), I dreamed that I was standing in a huge, wide-open warehouse. I noticed a man walking toward me. When he got right in front of me he stopped and looked me right in the eye. He raised his hand, pointed at me and, matter-of-factly said, “You haven’t seen everything.” Then I woke up.
My foregone conclusions had me convinced that I had exhausted all possibilities because I felt I had seen everything (in all my musings and mental exercises) that might be brought to bear on the difficulties, and those things just simply were not available to us as a solution.
A trembling began down deep inside as I realized that the word in the dream was absolutely correct. I had not seen everything. Within 72 hours the whole thing turned around! Please understand that you have not seen everything. Not only have you not seen everything, but there are things that have not yet been formed in your behalf. (Compare Job 26:12-14; Isa.48:6-7; 1Cor.2:9) The cloud “the size of a man’s hand” did not begin to form until Elijah’s servant walked down to the sea and looked the seventh time (1K.18:44). Because the Kingdom is advancing and bringing with it facilitation for purpose “some of the best days of your life haven’t happened yet.” The Kingdom is advancing and, as you are in the Kingdom, it is advancing you with it.

Keep Looking
Not only have you not seen everything, but there are things that have not yet been formed in your behalf. You can’t see them because they have not yet been formed. You haven’t seen what God is doing behind the veil that fear and doubt and obstacles have woven in your life. Consider the “cloud the size of a man’s hand” (1K.18:44) that God formed for Elijah. The servant had to go and look seven times in order to see what he had not yet seen the first six times. Even when the servant saw the little cloud, it was nothing compared to what it soon would be. Be careful to not stop looking for God’s intervention just because you have not seen something that looks like what your mind can imagine (1Cor.2:9).

Intent and Purpose
When we do see a demonstration of the Power of the Kingdom of God, we need to train ourselves to hold steady. The point is to know God’s intent and purpose for the visit. The purpose of God for the disciples was evidently for them to get a realization of unlimited Power, a foretaste of the Power of sons interacting with the spirit realm. God’s intent in the actual conversation between Jesus and the prophets on the Mount of Transfiguration was not revealed for us, but the interaction was an impacting experience. (Fifth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

Steady Not to Distract
We can take an equipping insight from the Transfiguration event (Mk.9) and reaction. When we do see a demonstration of the Power of the Kingdom of God, we need to train ourselves to hold steady through the shock and awe so as not to blurt out unnecessary things to distract or interrupt. We can train ourselves to wait to hear and perceive God’s intention for the event, as the disciples did in the next moment. A cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore except JESUS alone. Jesus alone and His agenda are ALWAYS the base line, the pivot or the point of Kingdom power; and we hold steady until we hear and understand His agenda. (The fourth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

Mouth Hanging Open
Peter then said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” The next verse says that Peter blurted this out without thinking, simply because they were all so stunned by what they were seeing. I don’t blame Peter for that outburst. Those three disciples were experiencing Kingdom Power that broke barriers in logic, time and history. And, by the way, HOW would the disciples have recognized Moses & Elijah? There were no history books with photos, no name-tags . . . Perhaps Jesus introduced them . . . and can you picture that? How would you be able to look eye-to-eye with Moses and smile or nod? Or how would you shake Elijah’s hand without your legs falling off? Maybe they weren’t introduced, but they knew them because they were intently eavesdropping, while frozen in a dead stare with their mouths hanging open! Power of the Kingdom
Let’s find insight in one of Jesus’ examples of the Power of the Kingdom in Mark 9. In verse 1, Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” In Mar 9:2, six days later, three of them did see it. Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes, and His garments became radiant laser-white, and Elijah and Moses showed up to talk with Jesus. Right before their eyes, Jesus was glowing and was transfigured beyond anything humanly possible. Beyond that, He was suddenly in the company of two prophets from Old Testament history, so the disciples definitely got an impression, realization and a foretaste of POWER! (The second excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

You are a Placeholder
In your daily faithfulness to God, you might just be a placeholder for someone else. You may be standing between someone and their destruction and, were you not there, they might just move into that thing or that relationship or that distress that prevents their getting to destiny. Moses was a placeholder for Joshua. Elijah was a placeholder for Elisha and Paul was a placeholder for Timothy. It is like being the shoulders that someone else gets to stand on and start out on. Our ceiling is their floor. You are a placeholder for your children and very possibly even for others. 1Cor.16:13 ”Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong.” We are praying you discover daily that you are standing firm in the faith so that others may stand in their place of purpose. Placeholders for Others
I DECLARE: **3. We are placeholders for others.
In our faithfulness to stand where God has us standing, in our consistency.
—You may be standing between someone and their destruction and, were you not there, they might just move into that thing or that relationship or that distress that takes them out.
—Perhaps it will even be a position that you fill that is not your life’s call but remains as long as you are there in it until the person who is supposed to fill it is able to arrive at that point.
Moses was a placeholder for Joshua.
Jonathan was a placeholder for David.
Elijah was a placeholder for Elisha.
Paul was a placeholder for Timothy.
—It is like being the shoulders that someone else gets to stand on and start out on. Our ceiling is their floor.
You are a placeholder for your children but very possibly for others.
(Each year these declarations come out of seasons of prayer for those with whom Marty has a degree of influence. If you would like to read all of them CLICK HERE.)

Signs, Wonders And Hearing
Signs, Wonders And Hearing (Kathy)
Recently, our daughter Melissa heard during worship, “It’s time to exhale.” She felt it was God in the moment and stepped up and released those words in song. To her it was simply a proclamation to put in the atmosphere, but it was a sign and wonder to a pulmonary doctor in the congregation. He was so excited he went to the pastor to tell him that the song was healing instructions for a patient of his that was also there in the service. It was a sign and wonder to the patient also. (She’d had a tracheotomy).
Hearing instruction and obeying the instructions are the basic essentials for miracles, signs and wonders. It is highly possible that the instructions will be as unique as the participants. Mozart heard a unique sound and gave instructions to the instruments for the sound of light being created during creation in Genesis. When the orchestra played his music, supernaturally, light came up out of the orchestra pit and the audience was frightened with the sign and wonder. Isaiah didn’t just get up one day and decide to become The Nude Wonder-Boy, he was following instruction and obeying God for a governmental turnover in a nation. Elisha hadn’t practiced throwing a stick in lakes to make iron swim, but he had practiced hearing God. When he heard God in the moment, the axe miraculously floated.
