Intent and Purpose

When we do see a demonstration of the Power of the Kingdom of God, we need to train ourselves to hold steady. The point is to know God’s intent and purpose for the visit. The purpose of God for the disciples was evidently for them to get a realization of unlimited Power, a foretaste of the Power of sons interacting with the spirit realm. God’s intent in the actual conversation between Jesus and the prophets on the Mount of Transfiguration was not revealed for us, but the interaction was an impacting experience. (Fifth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

Steady Not to Distract

We can take an equipping insight from the Transfiguration event (Mk.9) and reaction.  When we do see a demonstration of the Power of the Kingdom of God, we need to train ourselves to hold steady through the shock and awe so as not to blurt out unnecessary things to distract or interrupt.  We can train ourselves to wait to hear and perceive God’s intention for the event, as the disciples did in the next moment.  A cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore except JESUS alone.  Jesus alone and His agenda are ALWAYS the base line, the pivot or the point of Kingdom power; and we hold steady until we hear and understand His agenda.  (The fourth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

Mouth Hanging Open

Peter then said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”  The next verse says that Peter blurted this out without thinking, simply because they were all so stunned by what they were seeing.  I don’t blame Peter for that outburst.  Those three disciples were experiencing Kingdom Power that broke barriers in logic, time and history.  And, by the way, HOW would the disciples  have recognized Moses & Elijah?  There were no history books with photos, no name-tags . . . Perhaps Jesus introduced them . . . and can you picture that? How would you be able to look eye-to-eye with Moses and smile or nod? Or how would you shake Elijah’s hand without your legs falling off? Maybe they weren’t introduced, but they knew them because they were intently eavesdropping, while frozen in a dead stare with their mouths hanging open!  (The third excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

Power of the Kingdom

Let’s find insight in one of Jesus’ examples of the Power of the Kingdom in Mark 9.  In verse 1, Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”  In Mar 9:2, six days later, three of them did see it. Jesus took Peter, James, and John and led them up a high mountain.  His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes, and His garments became radiant laser-white, and Elijah and Moses showed up to talk with Jesus.  Right before their eyes, Jesus was glowing and was transfigured beyond anything humanly possible.  Beyond that, He was suddenly in the company of two prophets from Old Testament history, so the disciples definitely got an impression, realization and a foretaste of POWER!  (The second excerpt from Kathy’s article “Anticipating the Power of the Kingdom”)

No Surprises

A great example of scripture that shows us God has already moved in our tomorrow and what we can anticipate is Ps.77:19. (CEV) “You walked through the water of the mighty sea, but your footprints were never seen.”  And The Message version says: “You strode right through Ocean, walked straight through roaring Ocean, but nobody saw you come or go.”   God’s footprints were already in the bottom of the Red Sea before Israel ever left Egypt! An updated comparison might be: before they walked into 2018, God walked through the Red Sea in 2017. No one saw His footprints because they were looking at the circumstances with the considerations of the present age (cf. Rom 12:2). They had stopped considering God’s Word and had started considering the appearance of present circumstances. Most of them were looking back at Egypt wishing they had never screwed up the courage to walk out; desiring captivity and limited possibilities rather than trusting a God whose “mercies are new every morning” (that is a very strong hint that we should anticipate God). There are no surprises awaiting God in the remainder of 2017. His footprints are already out there in 2018. We are anticipating a Participating God who cannot be surprised.  (The fourth excerpt from Marty’s article “Anticipation Nation”)

Vigor for God’s Purposes

ActiveElderlyPeopleEven as the Lord kept His hand upon Moses for His purposes in the saving of a nation, may the Lord keep His hand on you that you retain your vigor, eyesight and clarity of mind. May your steps be quick and sure so you may fully serve the timing of the purposes of God Almighty for as long as He deems necessary in a nation that needs saving. The song says, “Let the weak say I am strong. Let the poor say I am rich because of what the Lord has done for us.”  (Deut.34:7, Msg) “Moses was 120 years old when he died. His eyesight was sharp; he still walked with a spring in his step.”  We are praying you discover daily that you have vigor for God’s purposes.

Spies and Focus

canaanspies
The spies were not sent into Canaan to see how big the giants were so the spies could repetitively tell horror stories about them. The spies were sent there to see what opportunities awaited Israel to glorify the name of Jahweh in the growth and advancement of their nation. Is our focus God’s focus?

Out of the Burning Bush

wallmapmanJust as God used the burning bush to get Moses’ attention, He uses signs to get our attention today. God desires to get our attention in order that He may say something to us which could lead us into a revolutionary direction as it did Moses. Out of the burning bush experience came a people to bless the nations.
(This is the last excerpt from Marty Gabler’s article “Amazed and Perplexed“ taken from his most recent book release “Toward an Understanding of Moves and Manifestations of God”. More excerpts will be posted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.)

Is God Strange?

When Moses approaches the burning bush he discovers that what he has called “strange” is actually God. When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush, and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” (Ex. 3:4-NAS) It is not the mosesbushburningbush that is something phenomenal; it is the fact that God is in the bush that causes this whole scenario to boggle the brain. God in the bush is creating a scenario that is most extraordinary. If indeed Moses was actually calling this spectacle “strange,” it was God he was calling strange because God was within the bush making the bush to appear as it did. We best be careful what we label things in these days when God is fulfilling Joel 2. It very well may be wisdom to stop saying “this” is not God or “that” is not God. A good practice would be to say, “I don’t understand that.”

This Strange Thing

Moses was pretty much just going along minding his own business as he tended to his sheep. One thing he was probably doing on the back side of the desert is that he was walking around kicking rocks and working out his theology. As he walked along he noticed a bush that was mosesburningbushburning. Although that did not seem to be a particularly unusual thing for that part of the world, Moses noticed that it simply continued to burn without being consumed.
It seems that his curiosity finally peaked, so he decided to go over and check it out. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight– why the bush does not burn up.” (Ex. 3:3) While he is observing this phenomenon and while he is actually walking toward it, he refers to what he is seeing as “strange (NIV).” According to Brown-Driver-Briggs’ dictionary Moses could have also been calling this phenomenal spectacle “large in magnitude,” “great in number,” “great in intensity,” “loud,” or even “distinguished.” At any rate, it was something which was quite out of the ordinary. Moses was quite unaccustomed to being presented with such an unusual sight and circumstance. It was now something which had reached a proportion that he was going to have to deal with it or at least make a decision about it.

Advancing Against Odds

PlantOutOfPavementAs the people of God assemble today, may they realize the sense of advancing forward against odds that cannot weigh them down to defeat. May they look up into the Face of promise and may they find shackles falling away as they begin their new, brisk pace of momentum into victories.

”‘Hear, O Israel: you are advancing today to battle against your enemies. Do not lack courage. Do not be afraid, or panic, or tremble [in terror] before them,” (Deut.20:3, Amp)

Placeholders for Others

I DECLARE:  **3. We are placeholders for others.
In our faithfulness to stand where God has us standing, in our consistency.
PersonPlaceholder—You may be standing between someone and their destruction and, were you not there, they might just move into that thing or that relationship or that distress that takes them out.
—Perhaps it will even be a position that you fill that is not your life’s call but remains as long as you are there in it until the person who is supposed to fill it is able to arrive at that point.
Moses was a placeholder for Joshua.
Jonathan was a placeholder for David.
Elijah was a placeholder for Elisha.
Paul was a placeholder for Timothy.
—It is like being the shoulders that someone else gets to stand on and start out on. Our ceiling is their floor.
You are a placeholder for your children but very possibly for others.

Don’t Murmur—Adjust

PointingOnMountainThere are many disappointed people dreading the coming years. When I stop and listen to their dire predictions, I tend to become disheartened myself. There are people preaching and prophesying out of their anger over current national and world events rather than proclaiming the Word of the Lord. There are those sounding off because of elections and appointments that didn’t proffer certain results. (Rather than standing firmly upon the never-failing Word of Almighty God, people will shift loyalties and not endure sound doctrine to get a quick fix like Esau did, like Esau who forfeited his birthright.) A murmuring Israel left Egypt and their murmuring manner turned a two-week walk into a forty year period of time that allowed the murmurers to die off before the coming generation could inherit the promised land. The murmurers died outside of facilitation. How sad that a generation had to wait for a preceding, unbelieving generation to die before they could receive promise. But, as always, there was a remnant and there will be a remnant, and the likes of Joshua and Caleb got to enjoy what the remainder of their generation chose not to walk in.

When Eating The Gruel Of Bitterness

Task masters suppress and have full intention of destroying hopes and promises. During a particularly trying time in my life I had an opportunity, at his invitation, to spend some time with a minister I had known for a number of years.

Businessman On StringsWe were sitting across from one another in a booth at a restaurant. At one point that evening, he was physically repulsed by my conversation and he actually got as far back in the corner of his side of the booth as he possibly could. Later that night that disturbing scene replayed itself in my memory.

As I wondered about the cause, I began recalling my words and my tone of voice. Because of certain situations I had faced in the past with persons he and I both knew, emotions which were marinated for months in bitterness dominated my portion of the discussion. It was then that I realized I had become a victim of the task master called Bitterness.

I had not eaten at the Master’s table in so long that my spiritual and emotional belly was growling painfully with the acidic gruel that Bitterness had been feeding me. That pain was eventually expressed in the form of acidic verbiage which stung and repulsed others.

If you submit to them, task masters feed you a spiritually malnourished diet that will keep you subdued while they do your planning for you. They preempt any goals or plans you had for yourself.

(This is the sixth excerpt in a series from Marty Gabler’s book “Why Sheep Have Short Legs,”  Chapter Two.)

Nourish The Dream

deer bottleMoses was nourished in his father’s house for three months (Ex.2:1). Anything marked for the purposes of God must be nourished within us and given ability to stand. Giving ability to stand is in the basic meaning of nourish. “By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict (Heb.11:23).”

That dream God gives is no ordinary dream. Feed it. Nourish it. The false report may say, “Oh, but it is so skinny and frail, it’s almost dead.” Nourish it. It will come back strong. “Oh, but there may not even be an ember left because the original fire was built so long ago.” Patiently and persistently stir and feed the fire. It will come to flame again.

(This is the fourth excerpt in a series from Marty Gabler’s book “Why Sheep Have Short Legs” Chapter Two.)

God Raises Up Midwives

Dreams and visions are relentlessly attacked by the enemy until: (1.) they are mature and defeat him or (2.) we relinquish them.

midwifery1Relinquished dreams are no threat to our enemy at all. That is why God raises up midwives who will not sell out to Pharaoh. There is indeed One more desirable and more powerful than Pharaoh. Because God prepared God-fearing midwives, Moses (the offspring of God’s wise planning) was protected, kept alive and led Israel out of Egypt to the promised land.

God is ALWAYS FAITHFUL to raise up midwives to keep His offspring (promise) alive. Be sensitive to recognize them and not drive them away for they will help birth the baby of deliverance for your life. A midwife may be a prophetic word, a song in the night, a teaching or a compassionate person who may have no idea whatsoever that they are the midwife sent by God to help give birth to your deliverance.

(This is the third excerpt in a series from Marty Gabler’s book “Why Sheep Have Short Legs” Chapter Two.)

Do Not Tread Thoughtlessly

Burning-BushWhere you are standing may look like ordinary ground at first glance. Where you are presently may seem like a wilderness without purpose but there is an all-wise, loving Father who in His wisdom and within His customized timetable of events says, “Take off your shoes so that you do not tread thoughtlessly on ground and time that I have set apart for a purpose.”

“Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” (Ex.3:5, NKJV)
