Not Duped

ThinkingMindful

May the Lord give us presence of mind not to be duped when someone is trying to use us, or use our influence or our good name.

“They have no intention of living for our Master Christ. They’re only in this for what they can get out of it, and aren’t above using pious sweet talk to dupe unsuspecting innocents.” (Rom.16:18, Msg)

A Motivation For Worship

PraiseAndWorship1The ark of God was moved to Mount Zion and “worship” continued as before on Mount Gibeon without the ark – the presence of God.  There are some people who get used to doing things one way. Only one particular routine becomes acceptable and any changes bring resentment.  Likely human personalities will swing wide their gates to be used in a Michal-style resentment (2Sam.6:20).  That resentment is not portrayed simply because it is the right of each American to express how they feel.  It is made known as an intimidation.  “Back off or you will get more of this.”   Please allow me to point out the response scripture records that David had for Michal: And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour (2Sam 6:22). And this was David’s motivation in worship:  “And David said unto Michal, It was BEFORE THE LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: THEREFORE I WILL PLAY BEFORE THE LORD” (2Sam 6:21).  (1.) He had a motivation for worship and for change;  (2.) His motivation was correct;  (3.) His motivation was his courage.

Acceptance And Assurance

ShakingHandsAs the people of God assemble today, may they give and receive the touch of acceptance and assurance that they are part of the family of God, the household of faith.

“Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). [Be hospitable, be a lover of strangers, with brotherly affection for the unknown guests, the foreigners, the poor, and all others who come your way who are of Christ’s body.] And [in each instance] do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).” (1Pe.4:9, Amp)

Staying Long Enough

623-05849460It may be that some people have not lasted in a relationship with an
individual or a church because they only stayed long enough to find
out what they were not in the relationship, but they didn’t stay long
enough to discover what they were.

“But if we live in the light in the same way that God is in the light, we
have a relationship with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus
cleanses us from every sin.” (1Jn.1:7, GW)

Resentment And Impotence

MichalWindow3.) MICHAL—Michal represents resentment toward change. She doesn’t leave; she stays around but everyone knows that she resents the changes that have taken place. Michal makes her resentment known to leadership and does what she can, through attitudes, to make them regret change. The tragedy is, however, that she is never able to add to what is going on – her resentment has left her unable to bear anything with life in it. She is impotent (2Sam.6:23).

To Communicate Clearly

PeopleTalking1May the Lord help us to communicate clearly what we need to
communicate to others
and may we receive the clear communication
from others that we need to receive.

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such
a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment,
so that it will give grace to those who hear.” (Eph.4:29, NASB)

Choosing God’s Government

ThroneSwordWhen the elders of Israel became aware that it was time to put Josia on the throne (God’s government was put in place), God gave them a plan. They stood Josia in the temple and placed a crown upon his head (2K 11:12).  The people began to clap their hands and proclaim, “God save the king.” When Athaliah heard the celebration (Athaliah hates celebration which has not made her central), she ran into the temple and began to yell, “Treason!” No matter how deeply she stood in violation, she was convinced that change was treason on the part of others. Anything that was without her approval or anything that was in opposition to her plans was considered treason. The correct response to Athaliah was to accept God’s choice of government and to do it openly with all the proper leadership participating.

Hidden In The House Of God

SolomonsTempleThere was one grandson Athaliah did not kill. Jehoshaba saw what was coming down and hid Josia in the temple of God (2K 11:2). May God raise up many Jehoshabas in this hour with courage to protect what Athaliah wants to prevent. Josia was hidden in the temple for six years. Six is the number of man. He did not become king until the marks of man upon him had been exposed to the presence of God and the teaching of God’s word. There are some who might think it strange to keep a child hidden away in the house of God for six years. Some might think that he would be a weirdo because he had not been out in the world “living a normal life.” But when he came forth, he came forth as king.

At Our Post

TwoGuards

As the people of God assemble today may they be so focused on being yoke-fellows with those where God has set them in the Body of Christ that voices from the past and voices of faulty reasoning cannot reach them and call them away from their post.

“And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work and cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave to come down to you?” (Neh.6:3, Amp)

That Which Prevents Change

HandUp2.) ATHALIAH
Athaliah represents that which attempts to prevent change. She was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel. Athaliah opposed the present form of government which God had placed over Israel. She usurped power wrongfully. Athaliah will viciously fight to keep power in preferred hands for as long as possible. Athaliah doesn’t trust anyone but Athaliah. When her son died she seized the opportunity to place herself on the throne. She murdered all her grandchildren so that she would be the only one left whom the people would accept. Even if it destroys her seed and their potential, she will fight for control.
There is more than one way to murder present authority and leadership in order to prevent change. Physical destruction of persons is still widely opposed in church circles at the time of this writing. So a more convenient method of destroying persons and their vision is through words. Some do not come right into the throne room to commit murder. Some are specialists. There are some who walk out the door while slamming it loudly and then they “shoot” at leadership with a sniper’s accuracy as they come across members of the despised assembly. Remember here that I told you at the beginning of this article one of the most difficult points in dealing with these spirits is that they employ likely human personalities in order to reach their objectives. There are spirits under the employ of satan that strongly oppose change in the churches.

Don’t Stay On The Defense

RomanWrestlersThe initial hit from the enemy might require you to go on the defense, but you never stay there.  I will explain this in a tactical way.  I have been taking self-defense classes for over four years. One of my instructors recently said, “We teach you to defend yourself one time.  We will never teach you to stay in a defensive position.  You must counter, control, and finish the fight.”  Well, my goodness.  What strategy!  After you defend yourself one time from your enemy’s attack you then strike back with the weapons and skill God has given you.  You can’t stay just in the defensive position.  You propel forward because He already set up your counter measures and you are well armed, and able!  What are your counter measures?  Number one: Scripture. Number two: your Holy Spirit-breathed prophetic words.  Other than that, whatever God has personally set up for you.  Ask Him to show you and open your eyes to see!  Don’t get bogged down in the fear of it.  Look for His provision because it is already there.  Isaiah 54:17-“no weapon formed against you shall prosper” is not an afterthought.  It is solid forethought!

Looking Beyond The Giants To Promise

SpiesGrapes
When wading into war became obvious on the present course of progress, 10 spies decided to change course for a whole nation and a whole generation. Not desiring to deal with any difficulties, they began to yell, “Giants!” Taking that lead in opposition to the will of God became very costly for them – much more costly than the war which was waged for the promised land (Num 32:13). But Caleb’s response to the opposition was, “We are able to overcome it.” Caleb and Joshua, who gave the good report, were the only two out of that generation who possessed the promised land.

Contend For The Word

KnightHorse
Do you have a word or promise of God that has not come to pass in your life? Then (1)  CONTEND—Deut.2:24 “begin to possess… and contend”; “contend”: to excite oneself against a foe,  (2)  WAGE WARFARE— 1Tim.1:18 “wage the good warfare”: expedition, campaign, (3)  HEED—2Pe.1:19 “…the prophetic word which you do well to heed”:  to attach oneself to; to be given to or addicted to; to devote thought and effort to.  Seems that while we are expecting God to do it all, there is a considerable amount we can be doing.

Change And Adjustments For Destiny

DestinyAndChangeIn the Bible God gives us the example of a young teenage boy with very limited abilities. He shows us this David who will not tolerate the bullying and tyrant posture of opposition to the will of God. Courage accompanies purpose. When we do not understand God’s purpose and God’s ways, not only will giants intimidate and prevent us but anything which poses as a possibility of change or adjustment in our comfort zones. When we receive a prophecy, the elements of that prophecy will require adjustments in some area. From the moment David received his prophecy, his life was in continual change being propelled toward destiny. Consider the story of Joseph’s life if you still have questions about change and adjustments.

Resurrected Because There Was More To Come

ResurrectedJesusAs the people of God assemble today may they fix their eyes on Jesus who endured the cross, despised the shame and is now set down at the right hand of the throne of God. May they know that Jesus rose from the dead because there was more to come.

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  (Heb.12:1-2, NAU)

Death Could Not Erase

EmptyTombWhy were dead people walking about in the streets of Jerusalem?  “The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;  53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.”  (Matt 27:52-53, NAU)  Because of Jesus the answer is in Heb.11:13—“All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.”  They were awaiting their resurrection.  They had already received the promise of resurrection, they had already lifted their eyes and not even death could erase what they had seen.

God Equips Us Before

CatapultMachineWhile thinking about recent events I had to deal with, the scripture Isaiah 54:17 “no weapon formed against you will prosper” came up again. This time, however, I saw it differently. I think a lot of times this is used as a defensive scripture when really it is an offensive scripture! God equips us for the weapon BEFORE, not after, it is formed against us. The reason the weapon doesn’t prosper is because He already set countermeasures in place prior to its launch. He already equipped you with everything necessary to walk out of this battle in tact. That, my friends, is an offensive scripture loaded for battle!

Difficulties Of Change

GiantsTwo1.) GIANTS—Giants represent the difficulties of change and the difficulties involved in making adjustments. When the 12 spies went in to spy out the promised land there were two different reports filed (Num 13:30-33). Caleb reported that the land was a “good land” and that they were able to take it. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it (Num 13:30). However, there were others who noticed the giants (v. 33-Heb.: bully, tyrant) in the land and decided that, even though the land was flowing with milk and honey, the difficulties this change offered were not worth the effort. If they could have walked in without any difficulties or having to make any adjustments, they would have voted to go into the promised land.

That We May Lead A Quiet Life

If such an outcome were not possible, we would not be instructed by our Lord to pray this way: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,  2  for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1Tim.2:1-2, NKJV)

Respond To The Intimidation

ThinkingManThe spirits that Goliath, Athaliah and Michal characterize are still operating in these days. The point of difficulty we reach in dealing with these spirits is that they employ likely human personalities to most effectively intimidate those pressing forward in change. Individuals and church groups will both face the sting of these characters as we come closer to realizing our destiny. It is the human voice that is intimidating pastors and leaders into digressing from what they joyously began walking in just a few short years ago. The threat of financial loss and the loss of membership are strong factors of intimidation and discouragement that the enemy is using. We must face these facts, identify the facts and scripturally respond to the intimidation.

(This is the fourth excerpt from Marty’s article “Giants, Athaliah and Michal“ which was published in SEEC Magazine [Marty and Kathy’s ministry magazine]. More excerpts will be posted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Previous excerpts may be read by scrolling down this page.)
