Forgive us our Debts
KATHY GABLER—Forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors. . . And forgive us our debts AS we forgive our debtors. I wonder if a healthy father-son relationship means having to continually ask for forgiveness? I think many Christians feel this part of the prayer is a directive to always be sure we are still saved, but that is not praying as a son. A healthy son does not continually question if he is still a part of the family. This statement, more than a petition to be forgiven, is submission to a mature son’s discipline and training. Forgiveness un-tethers us so our lives do not revolve around our conflicts. Forgiveness changes our focus from failure to future.

Shedding of Cycles
MELISSA—In giving some thought to 2023, we might do well to think about the intense nature of the end of this year not being a foretelling of hardship to come in 2024, but rather the shedding of the things that have kept us bound to cycles of failure.

The Two-Sided Weapon

Kathy — The Holy Spirit has been emphasizing a two-sided weapon, discernment and wisdom. We must have discernment so that we can cut through the fog of emotions and opinions that arise during change and growth. Discernment will keep us from standing against the changes that God is bringing to His church and our lives. We need discernment to choose righteously and then we need wisdom to know how to walk out our choices. Js.1:5, TPT — “And if anyone longs to be wise, ask God for wisdom and he will give it! He won’t see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures with his generous grace.”

Looking Beyond Defeat
May the people of God look beyond the threats of failure and defeat that loom defiantly over them. May they look beyond infirmity, disease, financial lack and setbacks and focus on the promises of God that never fail, and let loose with heart-felt praise! “Meanwhile, I’m sure you’re on my side— no victory shouts yet from the enemy camp! You know me inside and out, you hold me together, you never fail to stand me tall in your presence so I can look you in the eye.” (Ps.41:11-12, Msg)

Overriding Past Failures For Future Victories
May good things and giftings, and words of encouragement and enabling spring up out of you in this season like a spring that is beginning to flow. May all the debris of uncertainty and past failures and criticisms blow completely away as the good things flow unhindered to bless others. Get into the Word of God and let it speak more loudly to you than the voices that would remind you of your history. Be reminded that the former things are cast into the sea of forgetfulness. The forgiveness and enablements of Jesus Christ override past failures and insure future victories. ”The good man, from his [inner] good treasure, brings out good things…” (Matt.12:35a, Amp) We are praying you discover daily God’s forgiveness in your life.

Getting Back on Track
When the depth of what Peter has done with his denial of Jesus hits him he becomes discouraged, confusion sets its murderous claws deep into his pummeled brain and frustration launches forth a caustic invocation of evil reprisal (*Mk 14:71). His failure beats him mercilessly from one side of his conscience to the other and the result is that he abandons the original promise and purpose for his life. As he wanders off into the unfocused mist of a confused night of shot-values and vanishing commitments he resigns himself forever to be merely a workaholic on an obscure fishing boat, convinced he was no more than a false dreamer all along. Now, getting back on track will be getting back to the realization that already hit him months ago before the fire of testing burned this hot, getting back to “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the Words of eternal life.” (Jn.6:68)

God Hasn’t Changed His Mind About You
I know a lady that was raised on the church bench. She had such a heart for God when she was young, that she
truly considered marrying a minister. She is wired primarily eagle, who tends to require perfection in self. She is also ox, wanting no conflict, and she has a motivational gift of serving as well. She went right from high school to being a secretary. As choices flowed in her life, she married young and went through two divorces. Being a conscientious church girl, she saw herself as disqualified and a failure. She struggled with thinking that her potential and purpose were lost. For years, her self-image and self-worth were shaken. However, even with those two elements shaken, she was one of those exceptional people that had enough strength of character not to allow her self-government to take a dive. She remained diligent in her career and rose to executive secretary. After dealing with taunting questions like “Who am I now? Why am I here now? (since I’ve messed up so badly),” she came to the realization that God had not changed His mind about His original intent for her and her gifts and calling were still intact. Today, she has overcome and is an awesome intercessor, just as she was originally intended to be. She realizes now that even her time as a secretary was actually intercessory in nature, building bridges between problems and their resolve. She outgrew her feelings of unworthiness to even allow the Holy Spirit to stir gifts in her of discernment and prophetic proclamation.

A Cracked Reflection
None of us outgrow the need for identity, affirmation or boundaries. If they are met, they help us to be healthy mentally, emotionally, physically and relationally. If they are not met, they set us up for sabotage. Since none of us had a perfect family life growing up, we have all been sabotaged to some degree and had conflicts with self-image that left our self-worth in doubt, or vice versa. And we have all faced embarrassment or failure regarding our self-government. So, it is no private scar since everyone’s mirror (self-image) gets whacked in life. Sometimes it is even our own doing; but how we respond after the fact is the crucial matter. If we continue to only look at a cracked reflection, a marred, fragmented person; that will keep us from agreeing with the way God sees us and keep us from lining up with God’s intentions for our life and future.

Attaining Things Which Are Before
“Those things which are behind” must be laid aside in order that “those things which are before” may be attained. A prophecy can be a part of what makes up that “Divine Gravity Pull.” When we receive a prophecy, the word which we receive begins to propel us forward. When we are propelled forward we are truly being propelled toward something but we are also being propelled away from something. Prophecies should serve to help get our minds and emotions off those unfruitful things of the past. There are attitudes and mindsets, traditions and sentiments, failures and rejection that we must set aside in order to go on. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” (Heb 12:1).
