Not Focusing on Time

May we not focus on the loss of time and opportunities as we head into the remainder of this year. But may we focus on Him Who is faithful and desirous to get us to appointed times and purposes and may He help us not to sabotage what He is working in us.
“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” (Ps.138:8, NKJV)

Rebuilding Thought Patterns

The key difference between winning war and merely surviving is our beliefs and attitudes, and both start in our thinking. That’s why God was trying to change Judah’s thinking and focus (Hag.1:5-9). Rebuilding the temple would change their future. Rebuilding the temple would set their priorities in order and break the cycle they were in. Rebuilding the temple was about vision and purpose. When we have vision of a future that is different, better and beyond today’s limitations, we can muster the passion and zeal to take ground and get to change.

Praying for the Blessing of Others
As the people of God assemble today, may each one look beyond opportunities
to dwell on and point out the faults of others. May each one pray for the other
that their faults not overcome them but that they escape faults and shortcomings
and be blessed for the purposes of the Lord and the blessing of others.
“and never return evil for evil or insult for insult [avoid scolding, berating, and
any kind of abuse], but on the contrary, give a blessing [pray for one another’s
well-being, contentment, and protection]; for you have been called for this very
purpose, that you might inherit a blessing [from God that brings well-being,
happiness, and protection].” (1Pe.3:9, Amp)

Perseverance is the Evidence

Faith is the evidence of things not seen.
Perseverance is the evidence of faith.
Perseverance is the evidence of trust.
Perseverance is the “amen” spoken by us.
“For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes in Him [Christ]. For this reason we
also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His
Person and by His agency] to the glory of God.” (2Cor.1:20, Amp)

Falling Into Unbelief
Falling into unbelief isn’t really even complicated. When trials are extensive and answers to prayer are long in coming, doubt will always show up and build a case for unbelief. Doubt sniffs us out when we are afraid. Fear stinks and Doubt smells it! Fear is similar to germs in that it’s everywhere. We can dismiss it and wash it away like we do germs with soap, or we can allow the fear germs to infect us: “I’m afraid the situation might never change. I’m afraid they might not be healed. I’m afraid I might not be able to stand and keep fighting.” The moment we embrace fear, Doubt says, “AMEN,” and we begin the descent into unbelief; and unbelief is always a losing-ground war!

Experience and Taking Ground
Experience is hard to out argue. Experience can dominate our belief system. Experience can demand we doubt God and square-off with Him: “God, IF you’re there, then do something!“ Have you ever wondered why some people get prayers like that answered? They pray, “If you are God, heal me!” And they are healed! Or, “If there really is a God, give me a miracle.” And they get it! That’s got to be God’s goodness to bring them to repentance. Mature sons, already in the Vine, cannot start with, “IF you are God, then . . .” God will not accept that challenge. He knows a manipulative hissy fit when He sees one. At the point of a hissy fit, the next step is our response, not God’s. We can either repent and take some ground or spiral down into unbelief.

Conditioned by Truth
As we have seen in Hag.1:5-9, Judah was set-up to cower under pressure. We can understand why they shrunk back. They had been captives for generations. We can live under hereditary curses and generational outlooks on life that “set us up” to suffer loss financially or physically or relationally simply because that is the only experience we have known. We can be programmed for defeat and have mindsets that keep us prisoner to the same beliefs, appetites, reactions and choices of prior generations. If that is the case, we are likely to spend our lives merely surviving, not winning, not increasing, not taking any spoils. If we examine our lives, we might discover that is why we survive instead of advance. Have we like Judah been conditioned by our experiences instead of the Truth?

Ordering Life According to Wisdom of God

Hag 1:5-9, “The LORD Almighty says “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” This is what The LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the LORD. “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the LORD Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house.” (NIV) The instructions were clear: “Give careful thought to your priorities. Don’t decide your day according to your problems or your feelings or your circumstances. Order your life according to my wisdom and honor.” He was telling them to think differently so they could change their world.

Giving up — Not an Option
By the time we find Judah in the book of EZRA, after being prisoners of confusion in Babylon, they are tired of looking for change and seeing only sameness. As soon as they came from captivity, they set up an altar for sacrifice and laid the foundations of a temple. However, in Ezra 4, it tells us their neighbors discouraged them and frightened them away from building. They’d hired counselors against them to frustrate them. They wrote accusations against Judah and Jerusalem saying they would become traitors. The government then stopped them by force and work on the temple ceased until the second year of Darius king of Persia.
By then however, the storms of life had layered grit and grime on their “windows” making it difficult to see anything encouraging. They couldn’t see the need to keep on trying! They had no spirit nor courage to try again. They said, “Not NOW, we haven’t even recovered from captivity. We can’t deal with one more thing right now!”
Hag 1:1-4, “In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai. This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come for the LORD’s house to be built.'” Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” (NIV) Giving up because we are weary is not an option.

Washed Not Conformed
When the foundationally soiled values of human reasoning foul the hearts and minds of church-goers (and former church-goers who have supposedly been taught the Word of God), and it becomes evident in lifestyle choices that do not glorify God Almighty, it is high time for people to avail themselves so that their hearts and minds may be washed with the Word of God all over again (Eph.5:26). It was not actually a legalistic preacher who said, “Be not conformed to this world” but Apostle Paul in the Bible who shared it for those who would overcome and be victorious.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Rom.12:1-2, Msg)

Are You Gummin’ It?

Do you ever have a day when you think, “If faith were teeth . . . right now I’d be gummin’ it”? I don’t know about you, but I don’t wake up every day looking for new battles and greater challenges. In fact, many mornings I wake up tired, tired of waiting on promises that still haven’t manifested; tired of praying for healing, but seeing only a little; tired of believing for miracles, but only feeling the heat get hotter; tired of looking for change, but seeing sameness; tired of watching people go two steps forward and three steps back; tired of asking for a refreshing rain, but ending up in a puddle of disappointment. When the storms of life wear your faith down to the gums and contrary winds layer grit and grime on your windows, it can change the way you see things. But don’t give up. We are on the threshold of seeing more of the presence and plan of God manifest in our lives than ever before.

Wise Counsel

As the people of God assemble today, may they hear wise
counsel taught from the Word of God and from interacting
with the people God and may that counsel save them from
hurt and loss and bring them to resolve of issues.
“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude
of counselors there is safety.” (Prov.11:14, NKJV)

Safety in Counselors

Safety is not in the multitude of prophesies and visions and revelations. Safety is in the multitude of counselors (Prov.11:14). There are “sheep” who don’t believe they need the flock and certainly don’t need a shepherd because they have a multitude of visions and prophecies. We call those sheep “wolf food”.

The Soul Can Initiate Dreams
The soul can initiate dreams, pulling from the senses, emotions, imagination, stresses, thoughts and experiences. God has given us the dream tool, not only as a direct line to hear from Him but also as a means of revealing our own issues to help us resolve them. When dealing with soul
dreams, it can be easy to miss the point and dismiss an uncomfortable dream rather than benefit from it and get to godly resolve! We have all had strange dreams where we went to the breakfast table feeling guilty. Have you ever awakened with a load of guilt left by a dream? For example, a common soul dream is dreaming you are back in school and can’t find your class or your homework. It could be that your current situations or activities are reminding your soul of the same feelings of those embarrassing, immature, insecure years. Or you could be glimpsing something in your soul that was never resolved from back there in that stage of maturing and training. Or you could be feeling unequipped or fearing failure in your future plans. In any case, there is no benefit to carrying that guilt around the rest of the day.

Rehearsals Through Dreams
I believe God sometimes calls us to rehearsals through dreams. The Spirit of God can enlarge our vision and plant hope in our hearts as we sleep. These dreams can become un-carnal weapons in our arsenals.
I’ve heard many dreams of people ministering under a tremendous anointing or doing supernatural exploits under a heavy anointing. Others have experienced the powerful presence of God in a dream that is beyond anything they’ve known. Still others have dreamed of powerful exploits at work or dreamed of the elation of great accomplishments in their community. Some have literally experienced such dreams and then had them come to pass. Others are left to wonder the purpose of such dream experiences. I do not believe God-sent dreams are wasted or without purpose.
Such dreams build confidence in us, like a play rehearsal builds confidence that we know what to do when the time comes. These dreams can influence our desires and goals and set us upon God-ordained pursuits, provoking us beyond hindrances and limitations in life. They can be equipping dreams, opening us to the newness of obediences ahead. I believe rehearsal dreams are sometimes the confirmation or Amen ahead of time, so we will be assured something is God when we get there. After all, direction is easy to recognize when we have already rehearsed the path in dreams.

Speaking on God’s Scale
Prophetic voices are voices that speak on the same scale God is speaking on. We should be speaking the heart of God which brings about those
things which man cannot accomplish. If we speak for God we speak in “giant” language, not “ant” language like those who have adapted their thinking to the present world system (Rom.12:2). In many cases we have learned to talk like the Egyptians and the Babylonians whose gods had moral shortcomings and fickle emotions like the people who served them.
Early in the twentieth century aged plodders were still plowing with mules while young women were flying solo coast to coast. The aged plodders were using language like “plow”, “mule”, “harness”, “one acre”, “man wasn’t meant to fly”; and young women were using language like “magneto”, “propeller”, “rudder”, “elevator”, “altitude, “three thousand miles” – words the old plodders could not even define. The old plowmen would hold tightly to their plows, look up at the new-fangled flying machines and sadly shake their heads at what they perceived was utter nonsense. Prophetic voices have God’s perspective on what is and what shall be and refuse to be bound by the limitations of the poverty of the human experience. The only word God will get into agreement with is His Word which is more than adequate in any age.

Wise and Harmless Dreamers
Dreamers and visionaries can learn to be wise and harmless. We can ask for wisdom so that we do not mistake insight for a license. Also, we can remember to consider our dreams as OUR telegrams with a purpose for ME! If you are convinced a dream is for someone else, at least get godly counsel or agreement before sharing it.
The spoken word is powerful. Therefore the spoken dream can become a living, driving force – positive or negative. Lord, help us to remember the tongue has the power of life and death and reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing, (Proverbs 12:18)

Growth and Development
Concerning Growth and Development: I once heard a known speaker on TV say that if a gift is from God it comes full-grown and there is nothing
for a person to grow in. (1) Scriptural precedent shows us that our Heavenly Father is willing to work with our humanness and allows us time to develop. (2) The scheme in Galatians shows us the process of a growing son and his father’s willingness to trust him after various stages of development (Gal.4). (3) The master in Jesus’ parable of Matt.25 trusted his servant at a much higher level after the servant proved himself capable at a much lower level. (4) In Lk 2:40, 52 Dr. Luke speaks of the growth and development of the Person we call Jesus. (5) Even the young prophet who ministered in a high-profile incident in 1Kings 13 needed to grow and develop before he was able to properly discern matters. His immaturity and inability to discern properly was his loss and a lion’s gain (v.24). (6) The Hebrew writer encourages us to train our senses so that we may be able to discern (Heb 5:14). (7) Although Elisha had spent some period of time with the great prophet Elijah, his mentor informed him that there was a great deal more to come.
