Martha Didn’t Know She Was Headed to Unbury Her Brother

Do you think Zacharias, Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary had any sense they were POSITIONED for their purpose? I don’t think so!  Neither did the Widow of Nain plodding along in the funeral procession, feel POSITIONED by God to dance home with a resurrected son, but she was!  Saul atop his horse, on a Christian-killing mission, answering only to the Sanhedrin had no warning he was about to be blind, wrapped around that horse’s knees and entering training to be an apostle, but he was POSITIONED by the purpose of God!  Murmuring Martha, grieving and waiting to give Jesus a piece of her mind over his tardiness, had no inkling she was about to un-bury the brother she had buried four days before, but she was POSITIONED … in destiny … in purpose … in history.  (Sixth excerpt from Kathy’s article “Positioned for Purpose”.)

July is For Setting Our Eyes on The Goal

The month of JULY IS FOR SETTING OUR EYES ON THE GOAL that is centered in Christ;  for getting a solid grip on His purpose for us.  “It’s not that I have already reached this goal or have already been perfected, but I pursue it, so that I may grab hold of it because Christ grabbed hold of me for just this purpose.” (Phil 3:12, CEB)

Reaching Beyond Barriers

Jesus Doesn’t Pull Backward

The Lord Jesus doesn’t pull people backward. With His Word and Holy Spirit, He propels them forward. People, memories and failures tend to pull us backward. Apostle Paul said (Phil.3:13), “I forget those things which are behind and I reach forward to those things which are ahead.” It is very difficult to reach forward intending to grasp the prize when we have armfuls of past clutter preventing progress. That “reach forward” in v.13 means to reach beyond the places we have stopped in the past. We will no longer stop at the roadblocks and barriers we have yielded to in the past. Paul said, “I press toward the goal in Christ Jesus.” We are praying you discover daily that you are forgetting what is behind so you can press toward the goal. Shedding the Scales

May our Lord’s mercy, Word and Spirit remove scales from our eyes. “Scales were representative of Saul’s ignorance… and unbelief.” (Gill)  How do “scales” form? They come from past paradigms, from traditions of our environment, opinions, and personal preferences. Persons of significance whom we have given place in our lives, in our development may, in their views, expressions, and theology be instrumental in helping to form the ignorance and unbelief that prevents our seeing readily and clearly the truths of the Kingdom of God. It takes the Holy Spirit to enable us to realize that those blocking, hindering scales are actually there and are actually preventing our seeing even Scriptural truths. (Acts 9:18, NKJV) ”Immediately there fell from his eyes something like scales, and he received his sight at once; and he arose and was baptized.” And, may I add, Paul then became a powerful instrument in advancing the Kingdom of God—as vehemently as he had opposed it.

Washed Not Conformed

WashingOfWordWhen the foundationally soiled values of human reasoning foul the hearts and minds of church-goers (and former church-goers who have supposedly been taught the Word of God), and it becomes evident in lifestyle choices that do not glorify God Almighty, it is high time for people to avail themselves so that their hearts and minds may be washed with the Word of God all over again (Eph.5:26). It was not actually a legalistic preacher who said, “Be not conformed to this world” but Apostle Paul in the Bible who shared it for those who would overcome and be victorious.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Rom.12:1-2, Msg)

The Foundational Thing: I Believe God

Boat_Paul_RomeFrom the stormy Acts 27 account Paul decided, in the midst of a dangerous situation, to not live by things said BY OTHERS. The foundational thing he said was in v.25 “I believe God”. He believed the thing said in v.24 “you must be brought before Caesar”; and HE SAID that thing also. Other things he said that were contrary to what was apparent: v.22 “there shall be no loss”; v.24 “fear not”; v.24 “all will be saved”. All the other 275 people and their authorities (unbelievers) were crying out contrary things but Paul did not live according to what they said; he lived according to what he had been instructed and what he had been instructed, HE SAID. Not only did Paul firmly stand on what HE SAID but, eventually, those in authority began to say what he said and all were saved.
