KATHY GABLER — The 3rd question God asked Adam in the garden was if he’d eaten of the tree. God wasn’t looking for information of course. He was helping Adam realize the point of origin of this earthquake that tore up his self-image and damaged his self-worth, was when he defied the boundaries. If anyone ever feels like God sets boundaries to demean or be unjust or cruel, they need some vitamin “G” as in “G”row up! He sets boundaries wisely to set the stage for the truest expression of commitment, respect and honor in a lifetime. It takes self-government to work within boundaries and that self-government develops maturity and character. Character is a matter of righteous values and moral strength. Character is essential to taste true fulfillment in your lifetime. It will take character to keep you wherever purpose takes you. I’ve known really gifted and skilled people who lost everything because they did not have the self-government and character to honor boundaries and protocol in relationships or career or finances or health.

A while back I was praying about our nation. I was listing the issues and the chaos and the unrighteous rulers before God. It was then that I saw a vision of a boxing ring. A man in a tux walked out into the center of the ring, took the microphone and announced the fight. He pointed to his left and said, “In this corner is anarchy, liberalism, atheism, existentialism, failing morals and failing values.” The crowd would gasp in horror each time the announcer would list another of the 
creature’s attributes. Each time he listed another name or description, the dark creature in that corner grew another inch and gained another 20 pounds until he menacingly filled that corner of the ring. Then I heard a voice cry out and ask, “But who will figure the Holy Spirit into the equation? Who will announce Him?” In the vision I jumped to my feet and cried aloud, “I will!” I climbed into the ring, took the microphone and said, “BUT in THIS corner is the One who, in the beginning when the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep, this One, the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and chaos was changed into order!” The crowd jumped to their feet and began to shout until the roar was deafening. The whole atmosphere changed.
Don’t count out Holy Spirit — Holy Spirit is in the fight. Too many people are climbing into the ring of discussion and opinion, taking the mic and announcing the negative. Every time we announce the negative, we give it more size and weight in our thinking and the thinking of others. David overcame his enemies but reported this pattern while he was doing it: “From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the Lord is to be praised.” (Ps.113:3)

How far up on the list have we let “minor” items inch toward “major” positions in recent years? Habits, indulgences and expenditures tend to creep ever upward among priorities and can eventually press biblically-based convictions out of position. May the Lord help us to keep things in the order that the wisdom of biblical values would put them.

In spite of the angle of descent of morals and values, in spite of what the world money market looks like, in spite of what the state of the union looks like, we stand on the brink of a destiny that our forefathers never imagined. But it will require our moving from waiters and observers to acting. It will require shifting, transition and intense exertion; the “violent” action of Matt.11:12 which means “intense exertion.” It is not violent in the sense of doing persons harm but in the sense of putting forth effort in opposition to things that oppose purpose. We must oppose darkness like opposing a rattlesnake trying to crawl up in our bed.
