Due Time

Rocket LaunchingExpectancy comes alive at the intersection of Prepared and Due-Time.  By the time the prepared son or daughter intersects with Due-Time, something’s gotta  give, something’s gotta change, something’s gotta manifest in the earth as in heaven.  An expectant woman goes through nine months of preparation and transformation to get to due time of delivery.  People of purpose go through twenty days, twenty weeks, twenty months or twenty years, (twenty signifying the time needed to prepare and transform into God’s order), to get to due time.  A holy EXPECTANCY  announces you are on that threshold of God’s good plans ready to be propelled into what has been developing for tangible manifestation.

Misguided Expectancy

balloonsI pray release right now for those who are gifted, called, anointed and skilled for life purpose, yet are walking unfulfilled because of misguided expectancy.  Expectancy falls short if “be fruitful and multiply” only means duplication or mass production.  Expectancy is short-circuited if we are determined to fit the mold of a previous model.  Expectancy is distorted if it is influenced by personal issues like a need for attention or affirmation or acceptance.  Expectancy is diseased if it is driven by fear or shame or pride.  So, let’s cooperate with Father as He breaks the thought patterns that lead to misguided expectancy so that we successfully break out of life cycles of frustration and disappointment.

The Distinctives Of Our Obediences

roses_different colorsIn considering a variation on a theme (from my last post), there is a deep breath of freedom in realizing your rose will not have to be exact to a previous pattern.  It is good news to know that even if you perceive your call and purpose, that still does not lock down every detail about its ultimate expression.  As surely as we must all mature toward the image of Christ in character and relationship (as sons), so we must mature in our understanding of calling and purpose through the distinctives of our obediences.  I suspect history will likely prove our footprints as unique as our fingerprints.

Expectancy: Variations On A Theme

Let’s take the lid off Expectancy through Variations on a Theme:  I have seen artists do variations on a theme, like roses for example.  With twenty artists painting roses, the rose rainbowcolors and shapes and sizes and details vary to such extremes that the results are unique beyond imagination.  I believe that it would help us clear some of the fog about our life calling and purpose if we expected a variation on a theme, if we expected our lives to produce a unique expression of obedience.   For too long many of us have lived in EXPECTANCY that is limited in scope, especially regarding purpose, calling and fulfillment.  Purpose often gets narrowed down to constricted categories as either religious, noble callings or secular, ignoble callings that are simply necessary functions in society.   Experience and tradition narrow thinking even further by defining the most noble to be callings of God as those within the church structure or system.   Even the gifts of the Spirit have been so narrowly confined that we don’t expect a word of knowledge outside a church service nor do we expect a working of miracles in secular corporations or classrooms.  All these limited definitions have dictated our EXPECTANCY level and eventually our outcomes.  The theme of all our lives should be to glorify God on the earth by accomplishing the work , (effort or occupation) He has given us to do, (John 17:4, NAU)   There is no need to box that in, instead, let’s keep the theme of doing what you were born to do open to the Holy Spirit’s variations.  Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to direct our EXPECTANCY and determine how we paint a rose in our lifetime.

Quenching Fiery Darts

ShieldThere are some people who, throughout 2013, have tried to hold up the shield that quenches the fiery darts coming against them and their family and their church. But because of continued wearying circumstances, you have wearily lowered that shield and some of the darts and accusations have gotten through and done damage. Entering into 2014, you are getting that shield back up and into position by realizing and declaring, “But the Word of God says______.” As you quote the Word in the face of the incoming fiery darts, faith will begin to arise and you will, once again, lift the shield that quenches the darts. 2014 for you will be a season of quenching the fiery darts with the Word of faith.

“Above all, take the shield of faith, with which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Eph.6:16)

Coming To New Expectations

break chainMarty released a mid-year prophecy in July that God was breaking patterns.  He explained that the patterns of thought or steps our thinking usually follows were being changed (broken and rerouted) by God.  That, of course, ultimately means getting to different conclusions and opinions.  I would add here that also means coming to new expectations.  Old patterns being broken will include old cycles of memories and emotions as well as old paradigms that unknowingly limit God in our lives.  Those old patterns broken will also make some of our unbelief and mis-beliefs obvious, and we will be freed up to move beyond them.  So my expectation is new paths and new outcomes.  The exciting point here is that if we learn to think more like our Father, our confident expectations (hope) will nurture genuine faith and all that God-pleasing faith can bring to pass.

God’s Will And Timing

angel_shepherdsExpectancy can develop out of a seed in the soul (experience, logic, desire, opinion, etc), but it can also arise out of God’s good plans.   When that is the case, God’s intent exceeds logic and desire and anything experience expects.  History proves there is no guarantee that an expectation forged out of desperation or emotion or panic will come to pass, but a holy expectation coming up out of our spirit in agreement with God’s will and timing, will bring a God-forged EXPECTANCY and His expected outcome (Jer. 29:11).

Holy Expectation

noteOne of our spiritual daughters called to ask me to agree in prayer with her for clarity and direction because she felt it was time to start a business.  I was commenting on timing, confirming a God momentum stirring us all to action and change.  In that context, I mentioned my earlier conversation with Melissa and our discovery about the number twenty.  I heard it take her breath as expectancy struck again.  She reached for a penciled note in her Bible and then explained, “Y’all came to Spain in 1993 and prophesied over me.  I wrote the prophecy down and have kept it in my Bible for all these 20 years.  Every aspect of that prophecy has come to pass except the part about my having a business!”   Well, talk about Divine timing, that conversation ended in holy expectation!

20–The Numer Of Expectancy

calendar yearsRecently, we received a text asking the biblical significance of the number 20.  I’d remembered that E.W.Bullinger, in his book,  Number in Scripture, said that twenty was the number of expectancy.  I was on the phone with Melissa at the time I was searching out Bullinger’s book.  I read aloud to her his comments on the number 20, mentioning Samson and Jacob as I did above.  She said, “That’s interesting.  It was 20 years ago I received that prophecy through Kim Clement about being promoted three times to a place of purpose.”  That jolted me, because just three days earlier, I too had remembered that prophecy and had asked the Lord where Melissa was in the process of that prophetic promise.  I had no idea it had been 20 years, suddenly expectation stirred in me.  God had answered my question.   The reason we had not yet seen her prophecy come to pass was because it involved a twenty year process to get to an expected end.

Genuine Anticipation

lookingintothedistanceWhen speaking of expectancy, I’m not talking about false fantasies constructed in moments of distraction, but genuine anticipation that comes from hours, weeks and years of effort and pressing on.  After enduring twenty years of  Philistine oppression, Israel hit the threshold of expectancy and tasted the beginning of deliverance through Samson.  After twenty years of enduring his father-in-law’s manipulations, Jacob finally breathed in the fragrance of expectancy and took possession of his wives, his property and his future.  Twenty is the biblical number of expectancy, the kind of expectancy that comes after a long wait, a finally, an expected end.  Biblical expectancy is the point when preparation  brings results, the point when process yields fruit, the point when equipping fits its purpose.  Expectancy isn’t a luxury, it is a necessity because it is both fuel for the journey and the light at the end of the tunnel.

Expectancy

atticExpectancy can raise our heads and cause us to look beyond the now.  A whiff of expectancy changes the atmosphere.  The zeal of expectancy searches the horizon of today and stretches toward tomorrow’s.  Actually, expectancy can even draw inspiration by scavenging through yesterday.   The light of expectancy chases away shadows in your attic.  Suddenly, forgotten Potential coughs and breathes again, treasures stand up like dusty “maybes or what if’s.”  The whole landscape dances with the winds of expectancy.

Would You Like A Little Cheese With That Whine?

I laughed at myself recently. I was frantic to find a title to a vehicle we were selling. Marty and I had both searched our desks and files, but neither of us could find the title. Rifling through my files one more time, I suddenly heard myself praying, “Lord, help us. No, seriously, really make something happen this time!” Well, that was certainly no Cheesesexemplary prayer of faith and power to confess publicly, but it was a powerful prayer in that it turned a light on for me.

As the light came on, I could plainly see the unconscious script going on behind the scenes. As soon as I had muttered, “Help, Lord,” I thought of praying those same words hundreds of times concerning another situation in my life. The remembrance came to mock me for there was no help showing up after years, no sign of change, no movement whatsoever in my circumstances after those hundreds of prayers. The reminder was not only a damper on expectation for any present help, it was an in-my-face threat that God would not show up with resolve of this title situation.

The voice of desperation does not equal prayer mainly because desperation most often focuses on the problem which is the opposite of a faith focus on the One who has the answer. I suddenly realized I had been whining (hundreds of times), but I had considered it prayer. I repented. The awesome thing about repentance is that it brings change that brings change. Suddenly, in a Holy Spirit photo memory moment, Marty saw the title and it was right where we had put it, in a forgotten safe place. Hey, that’ll preach, the answer is SAFE until we can see it.

I laughed again. I love the smell of victory, especially even before the smoke of battle clears!

Don’t Despise Small Beginnings

sprout and earthWho dare despise the day of small beginnings? (Zech.4:10) A foundation had to be laid and then the building had to be continually worked on until it was finished. Mark 4:26-28 shows us that wheat doesn’t just jump up out of the ground and into the bag overnight. The farmer sows the seed, then it begins to grow while he sleeps and while he is awake though he can’t figure out how. Then when it begins to come up out of the ground, it is first the blade, then the head, then the mature grain in the head. That is incremental progress and the result is a harvest that supports and sustains. God will answer prayer with change that works on His timetable and in our lives, rather than what could end up being destructive.

I declare that God wisely and effectively uses incremental change in our lives and in our environment, as well as immediate all-at-once change, and we will have the knowledge and wisdom to see both and participate in both.

(This is the last excerpt from Marty’s article “Tares And Wheat.” This excerpt deals with “Incremental Change.”)

Samson And Incremental Change

samsonThe principle of incremental change is as evident in Scripture as is miraculous, immediate change. The Philistines regarded the captured Samson as one who was at a weak stage and would remain so. But Jud.16:22 says “But the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.” His hair did not suddenly pop out of his head on the day he took out more Philistines than he ever had. He went through the process of incremental change and growth and was ready on the day God so appointed his victory over the Philistines. A great opportunity lay ahead of shaved-Samson but he had to have been incrementally regaining his spiritual sight that enabled him to see God’s purpose for Israel, and he had to be incrementally regaining his strength so he would be ready for the moment.

(This is the eleventh excerpt from Marty’s article “Tares And Wheat.” This excerpt deals with “Incremental Change.”)

Can’t Fly? Try Walking

stairsIncremental change can be compared to looking at a ten story building wishing you were on top of it. A little bird flaps his wings a couple of times and is suddenly on top looking at all the world below. But people stand around crying, wishing they could be on top of the building enjoying the breeze and the scenery when there has always been a staircase inside the building that would yield an opportunity to anyone who would take it one step at a time. There are those who go about all the time talking about how God is going to give the riches of the wicked to the righteous but they will not save one dollar or make a single investment. There are those who long for the church to change or the nation to change but will not begin by getting involved with persons, institutions and regions. We must “occupy” till He comes, not wait for sudden dispensational change.

So Pants My Soul For You, O God

As the regal deer ran with all his strength, he eventually outdistanced the four-legged hunters that hungrily pursued him. Finding a pleasant water brook shaded by great deer1_350oaks, he slowed his pace and drew in deep breaths of fresh air while his racing heart pounded vigorously in his ears. Though still cautious and though very weary, he lowered his head to the cool, life-giving liquid and drank his fill.

No doubt, the Psalmist had witnessed just such a scene in the wilderness and had, himself, been relentlessly pursued by a crafty foe. He identified with being winded and with the threat of pursuit as well as with the deep desire for only that which can satisfy and renew the whole being. We join the deer and the Psalmist and turn our thirst to the only One who can satisfy and refresh us who have been pursued. For today, we shall continue resolutely on our journey, having been refreshed by The Living Water of life.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God.” (Ps.42:1, NKJV)

Speaking Solutions

Fall sceneIt is possible to call things something they are not and get into disagreement with God. It is also possible to call things into existence that have not yet existed to the glory of God. We must be cautious about getting into agreement with typically labeling people and situations and begin to speak what God’s Word and will are concerning them.

* I declare that we will take advantage of every opportunity to speak life and not death, to speak blessing and not cursing, to speak hope and not despair, to speak a way out for those who are in captivity instead of cursing their captivity, and to speak solutions instead of merely observing and reporting impossibilities.

Rom 4:17  “As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations. [He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in Whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed.” (Amplified)

Removing Tares

pull weedsIt is interesting to note scholars report that women and children were typically the ones who separated the tares from the wheat. It has already been noted that the tares can cause adverse symptoms, even death. The harvest of wheat would be worthless to the master of the field if it were discovered that there were any darnel (tares) in it. Yet, the women and children were called upon to remove the dangerous product. The women and children in this time of history and in this culture represent unskilled labor. Yet, they are the ones who are able to take care of business. In other words, that is how simple and easy it is to remove tares from our lives, our churches and our nation if we so desire they be removed. It doesn’t take any skill nor any great strength to remove tares so that the harvest is once again valuable. But the remaining factor is: the tares must be removed before the harvest is valuable and usable.

* I declare that the harmful, labor-intensive tares are being dealt with first in our individual lives and in the church and in the nation.

(This is the fifth excerpt from Marty’s article “Tares And Wheat.” In the next few days, there will be excerpts dealing with “Calling Things That Are Not” and “Incremental Change.”)

Keep Coming

hands reaching upWhen our Lord says, “Your thoughts are not my thoughts and your ways are not my ways,” that’s not a mere indictment but Hisacknowledging where we are. Upon that acknowledgment, His redemptive character is then extending an invitation to come up to His ways and come up to His thoughts. (Ps.103:7) He does not point out a disparity simply to make it more obvious. While our Lord declares to us that we are not quite there yet, we are welcome to come up and operate in His ways and think His thoughts. Can’t you hear His voice saying, “Keep coming, keep climbing, keep improving.” How useful to His purposes it is when we exceed our thoughts and ways and grasp hold of His.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa.55:9)

Harvest Is Still Coming

harvest by handThough tares threaten the harvest, the servants are restrained from going out and pulling up the tares and the tares are allowed to grow with the wheat but only for a specified time. The tares are allowed to grow with the wheat until harvest time. At harvest time, the tares must be removed first.

Tares have long been known to be harmful. They represent a detriment to the proper growth and harvesting of valuable wheat. Scholars have noted for us that the grain of the tare can cause dizziness and even death. It has a very similar appearance to that of wheat and has been used as a lesson of how the false can imitate the real while being destructive. But the harvest is still coming; it is still valuable. The Master still wants it, still plans for it, still uses it.

Time For Harvest

I declare that it is time for harvest in our lives, our churches and in our nation. It is time for harvest of that which has been long awaited–the victories that our Lord has been cultivating in us during times of trial, harvestpressing onward and endurance. We have not faced what we have faced and wrestled with what we have wrestled with and stood through testing for nothing. God has plowed and planted His Word into our lives. He has used people, circumstances and time to work His character into our lives. It will all yield its harvest in this age before the coming of our Lord. All the afore mentioned factors have been growing and maturing in us for a harvest that brings glory to Jehovah in this earth.

Happy Reformation Day!

Martin LutherThis is a day of celebration! I doubt you will see any children walking around this evening dressed like Martin Luther but it is a significant day in church history. October 31 is Reformation Day. This is the day celebrated as the day that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the Wittenberg church door in 1517. The reformers believed that only Scripture was the authority for Christians, not traditions of a church and they preached salvation by grace and not works. We celebrate those who courageously stood against the theological norms of the time, confronting corruption in the church at the price of risking and/or losing their lives. Happy Reformation Day!
