As the people of God assemble today may they sing praises that declare the value of Yahweh and His Word above all else. May they speak of and exemplify trust and dedication to Most High God so that the coming generations can see the value of putting their hope and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and may they experience the comfort of the safety and wholeness of belonging to the body of Christ. Kathy—Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection and ascension were for our salvation. That salvation includes the power to overcome any obstacle to your life and purpose. The fact that Jesus came to die for you proves that you have value. That’s your trump, that’s undeniable proof that you have value! Now let’s figure out how to get our emotions to agree with that truth so that we don’t bottom-out if someone treats us as if we don’t have worth. It is a lie to believe someone else’s problem can make you worthless. Matthew 10:30 “the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.” We are praying you discover daily your worth to your God.

Kathy — The second temptation of Jesus was when Satan said, “Since you are God’s Son, jump.” Many grow up never being affirmed. No authority figure notices their worth or ever takes the time to declare it, but God did. “This is My beloved Son in whom I’m well pleased,” affirmed Jesus personally and publicly. Satan couldn’t make Him test His own worth because he couldn’t make Him doubt His Father’s affirmation. (Mt.3:17)

Father is different from pleasing others. Pleasing God is not the same as pleasing the boss or pleasing a task-master or pleasing a judge or pleasing the powers that be in the human realm. God is not affected by humanness, and He is not so shallow that pleasing Him is about emotions or preferences or moods that humans or Greek gods seem to be fraught with. That’s your trump, the undeniable proof that you have value and that will forever declare your worth! The challenge is figuring out how to get your emotions to agree with that truth so that you don’t bottom-out if someone treats you as if you don’t have worth. If someone’s selfishness or pride or ignorance or prejudice or stupidity causes them to look at anybody as worthless, that is their problem. It is a lie to believe someone else’s problem can make you worthless. The challenge here is to find a way that their problem has no influence over our emotions. If we can learn to leave those offending moments in life by deciding not to stop and replay them, we can walk away in the confidence that we can trust God to deal with people and their issues while we rest in the truth that our self-worth isn’t even at risk.

While identity is the first basic need in helping see ourselves as God does, the second basic need for all of us is the need for affirmation. Affirmation is someone else’s agreement that there is value in you, in your potential, in your purpose and in your presence on earth. Affirmation comes thru relationship. If affirmation is one side of a coin, the other is self-worth.
