Don’t Stay On The Defense

RomanWrestlersThe initial hit from the enemy might require you to go on the defense, but you never stay there.  I will explain this in a tactical way.  I have been taking self-defense classes for over four years. One of my instructors recently said, “We teach you to defend yourself one time.  We will never teach you to stay in a defensive position.  You must counter, control, and finish the fight.”  Well, my goodness.  What strategy!  After you defend yourself one time from your enemy’s attack you then strike back with the weapons and skill God has given you.  You can’t stay just in the defensive position.  You propel forward because He already set up your counter measures and you are well armed, and able!  What are your counter measures?  Number one: Scripture. Number two: your Holy Spirit-breathed prophetic words.  Other than that, whatever God has personally set up for you.  Ask Him to show you and open your eyes to see!  Don’t get bogged down in the fear of it.  Look for His provision because it is already there.  Isaiah 54:17-“no weapon formed against you shall prosper” is not an afterthought.  It is solid forethought!

Looking Beyond The Giants To Promise

SpiesGrapes
When wading into war became obvious on the present course of progress, 10 spies decided to change course for a whole nation and a whole generation. Not desiring to deal with any difficulties, they began to yell, “Giants!” Taking that lead in opposition to the will of God became very costly for them – much more costly than the war which was waged for the promised land (Num 32:13). But Caleb’s response to the opposition was, “We are able to overcome it.” Caleb and Joshua, who gave the good report, were the only two out of that generation who possessed the promised land.

Contend For The Word

KnightHorse
Do you have a word or promise of God that has not come to pass in your life? Then (1)  CONTEND—Deut.2:24 “begin to possess… and contend”; “contend”: to excite oneself against a foe,  (2)  WAGE WARFARE— 1Tim.1:18 “wage the good warfare”: expedition, campaign, (3)  HEED—2Pe.1:19 “…the prophetic word which you do well to heed”:  to attach oneself to; to be given to or addicted to; to devote thought and effort to.  Seems that while we are expecting God to do it all, there is a considerable amount we can be doing.

Change And Adjustments For Destiny

DestinyAndChangeIn the Bible God gives us the example of a young teenage boy with very limited abilities. He shows us this David who will not tolerate the bullying and tyrant posture of opposition to the will of God. Courage accompanies purpose. When we do not understand God’s purpose and God’s ways, not only will giants intimidate and prevent us but anything which poses as a possibility of change or adjustment in our comfort zones. When we receive a prophecy, the elements of that prophecy will require adjustments in some area. From the moment David received his prophecy, his life was in continual change being propelled toward destiny. Consider the story of Joseph’s life if you still have questions about change and adjustments.

Resurrected Because There Was More To Come

ResurrectedJesusAs the people of God assemble today may they fix their eyes on Jesus who endured the cross, despised the shame and is now set down at the right hand of the throne of God. May they know that Jesus rose from the dead because there was more to come.

“Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  (Heb.12:1-2, NAU)

Death Could Not Erase

EmptyTombWhy were dead people walking about in the streets of Jerusalem?  “The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;  53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.”  (Matt 27:52-53, NAU)  Because of Jesus the answer is in Heb.11:13—“All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.”  They were awaiting their resurrection.  They had already received the promise of resurrection, they had already lifted their eyes and not even death could erase what they had seen.

God Equips Us Before

CatapultMachineWhile thinking about recent events I had to deal with, the scripture Isaiah 54:17 “no weapon formed against you will prosper” came up again. This time, however, I saw it differently. I think a lot of times this is used as a defensive scripture when really it is an offensive scripture! God equips us for the weapon BEFORE, not after, it is formed against us. The reason the weapon doesn’t prosper is because He already set countermeasures in place prior to its launch. He already equipped you with everything necessary to walk out of this battle in tact. That, my friends, is an offensive scripture loaded for battle!

Difficulties Of Change

GiantsTwo1.) GIANTS—Giants represent the difficulties of change and the difficulties involved in making adjustments. When the 12 spies went in to spy out the promised land there were two different reports filed (Num 13:30-33). Caleb reported that the land was a “good land” and that they were able to take it. And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it (Num 13:30). However, there were others who noticed the giants (v. 33-Heb.: bully, tyrant) in the land and decided that, even though the land was flowing with milk and honey, the difficulties this change offered were not worth the effort. If they could have walked in without any difficulties or having to make any adjustments, they would have voted to go into the promised land.

That We May Lead A Quiet Life

CongressPray

If such an outcome were not possible, we would not be instructed by our Lord to pray this way: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,  2  for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1Tim.2:1-2, NKJV)

Respond To The Intimidation

ThinkingManThe spirits that Goliath, Athaliah and Michal characterize are still operating in these days. The point of difficulty we reach in dealing with these spirits is that they employ likely human personalities to most effectively intimidate those pressing forward in change. Individuals and church groups will both face the sting of these characters as we come closer to realizing our destiny. It is the human voice that is intimidating pastors and leaders into digressing from what they joyously began walking in just a few short years ago. The threat of financial loss and the loss of membership are strong factors of intimidation and discouragement that the enemy is using. We must face these facts, identify the facts and scripturally respond to the intimidation.

Forms Of Opposition

ChessOpposedThis passage of scripture (“But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.” —2Sam 5:17) gives us the general idea that we, like David, are being opposed as we move forward with God and embrace the changes He is taking us through. In this article I want to show you four forms this opposition will take: 1) Giants represent the difficulties of change. 2) Athaliah represents that which attempts to prevent change. 3) Michal represents those who resent change. 4) Sanballat represents change being misrepresented.

More Than Your Parts

anatomyAs long as we do not see who or what we are in Christ, we are not going to act at that level. You are more than your constituent parts, i.e., you are more than bone and muscle and more than arms and legs and emotions.  “…the Spirit… dwells with you and shall be in you.” (Jn.14:17)  “Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Word. And My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” (Jn 14:23)  Now we must give Him release through our voice and through our actions. We are our constituent parts plus the Living Christ. After Jesus announced that all authority in heaven and earth had been given to Him, He told His disciples to go. It was His valedictory address announcing to them that it was now their time to release the sovereign activity of the Father.

more than your body and nutrients and caretakers

What God Has Put In Us

David n GoliathWe must be careful not to undersell ourselves. All of us have undersold what God has put in us for appointments and we have kept our mouths shut because we have focused on our individual value without consideration for what God has put in us. David’s brothers only considered him as their bothersome little brother when they told him to go back home and tend to those few sheep. Thank God he did not limit himself to the considerations his brothers limited him to. It was evident, when he faced Goliath, where David’s considerations were: “And David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of Jehovah of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1Sa 17:45)   Goliath came against David with only consideration of who he was within himself but David came against Goliath with only consideration of who God was in him.

More Or Less Spiritual

looking upHaving been around church-life a good many years I have observed a variety of people comparing who is “more spiritual” than whom and making judgments accordingly. Yet, after considering Scripture and observing folks, indication is that the one who is “more spiritual” is least judgmental; the one who is “more spiritual” is more loving and is most willing to walk the extra mile; the one who is “more spiritual” doesn’t cause criticism and rebellion in others. The “more spiritual” concept doesn’t separate, it adds to. Honestly, looking back over the years, I really don’t remember “truly spiritual people” (those whose lifetime proved Scripturally exemplary and reflective of the fruit of the Spirit) actually being all that concerned about making assessments on the lives of others. (1Cor. 9:27; 13:1-3; 2Cor. 10:12)

Doors For Release

200019477-001There have been unknown, unnamed people who have had an impact on a nation because they were in a place where God wanted them to be to release what He had put in them to release. God can put you in a position where someone else can open a door for you that you would have never been able to pry open on your most determined day.

From Point A To Point B

We need the power of Holy Spirit in order for God to be able to get us from point A to point B. The blessings of God stem from the fact that God has a point a to bSon, and a purpose to glorify that Son because that Son has a destiny. God will take a person from point A and, no matter how impossible it seems, get them to point B to participate in fulfilling some aspect of His Son’s destiny in advancing His Kingdom.

Going Through Doors

May we not slam doors of opportunity that are open to us through our words and/or our actions (even if we did not intend those words or actions to walk thru doorbe detrimental). May we be open to approaching doors considering the possibility that we just might have to go through this one after adjusting our paradigms and preferences. May we not look back in several years and wish we had done something differently or wish we had been willing to “pay the price” to walk through that door. May we hear the voice of our LORD as we approach doors in the future and walk through them in the manner of His choosing within His timing.

“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”(Jn. 5:19, NKJV)

Run Through A Troop

It is up to our God/King to sit upon His throne in the heaven of heavens and delegate and it is up to us to take that authority and enablement and run through2resist the “press of weight” and “cut through waves” and “run through troops”. David spoke in the past tense saying, “I have run through a troop.” It was something he had already done by the power of His God and wrote of it to testify to us so that we might take courage and do likewise. You were born to run through the enemy—not just one small one— but through a troop of them. You do not have to abide the enemy and certainly do not have to cower before him. You can “run through” because it is by the power of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, and be the Communicating, Governing and Empowering Factor in our lives!

Resurrection Is A Person

Martha spoke of resurrection in terms of an end-time doctrine. JESUS spoke of resurrection in terms of that which is a present fact applicable to present circumstances. JESUS was challenging Martha to see it and experience it BEFORE the Last Day.

cross_LightIf JESUS cannot raise us from the death of failure (“death”: termination or extinction of something; cessation of all vital functions), from the death “of ceasing of function”, from the death of “not functioning because of fault or breakdown”, how can He raise us from the dust at the Last Day?

Here at Bethany, where JESUS is speaking to Martha, He is only two miles from Jerusalem where He healed one who had been diseased for 38 years; He healed one who had been blind since birth; now He raised one who had been dead for four days. Surely He can raise you up today. I like this definition of resurrection: “to stand up again.” Rejoice, it’s Resurrection Day! You can stand up again because Resurrection is a Person! (v.25 “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE”)

“23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”  24  Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”  25  Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (Jn.11:23-25, NKJV)
