Unless the Grain Dies
MARTY GABLER—“Truly I say to you that UNLESS a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies…”(Jesus speaking in Jn12:24) This particular Grain of Wheat had a choice as to whether or not He would die and go into the earth. Knowing what was coming, He said to the Father, “yet not my will, but yours be done.”(Lk22:42) He was willing! Because this Grain would not “remain alone”: v.24 “if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Those redeemed by the shed blood of Jesus are His fruit. We are His message, His living letters (2Co3:3) that He has sent into the future. He rose, He lives and His fruit (His message to this generation) will show Him and His resurrection to the world by the power of His Spirit. He was willing to die to bear much fruit and His resurrection enables us to live to bear much fruit.

Going Through Doors For Others
There are doors of opportunity for the Kingdom to advance. As a result of that factor, there are doors of opportunity for us to go to a level we have never been to, to stand upon mountains we have never stood on. There are doors to take our children through, doors to lead the hungry
and the hurting through. Many lost and distressed and hopeless people stand where they do because they see no way out. They cannot see doors of release because of the immediate press of needs and issues. But there are doors before us and when we go through them it is possible to lead many others through them. We are not going through doors just for ourselves but for others. It is similar to the principle Jesus spoke of when laying down His life: Jn.12:24 “I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain; it never becomes more but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.” (Amplified) We must be willing to “lay down our lives” (Jn.10:15; 15:13), i.e., sacrifice to go through the doors of life and blessing for the benefit of that which is bigger than we are, namely, the Kingdom of God on earth. (Fifth excerpt from Marty’s article “Doors and Self-Government”)

Resurrection Is A Person
Martha spoke of resurrection in terms of an end-time doctrine. JESUS spoke of resurrection in terms of that which is a present fact applicable to present circumstances. JESUS was challenging Martha to see it and experience it BEFORE the Last Day.
If JESUS cannot raise us from the death of failure (“death”: termination or extinction of something; cessation of all vital functions), from the death “of ceasing of function”, from the death of “not functioning because of fault or breakdown”, how can He raise us from the dust at the Last Day?
Here at Bethany, where JESUS is speaking to Martha, He is only two miles from Jerusalem where He healed one who had been diseased for 38 years; He healed one who had been blind since birth; now He raised one who had been dead for four days. Surely He can raise you up today. I like this definition of resurrection: “to stand up again.” Rejoice, it’s Resurrection Day! You can stand up again because Resurrection is a Person! (v.25 “I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE”)
“23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to Him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (Jn.11:23-25, NKJV)

THE LAW OF GROWTH AND INCREASE
God’s Word is working in us to improve us and increase us (Col 1:29). His Word is in you. His Word is a seed. A seed does not exist just to be a little round thing snuggled up in the ground. A seed exists to sprout, to push up out of the ground, to grow a stalk and put out leaves and blooms so that it may produce fruit and that fruit is meant to be of benefit to others. God’s Word is a seed in us and it is
growing in us (Lk 8:11). A seed cannot stay as it is, it must increase (Jn 12:24). There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace…(Isa 9:7). The seed in the parable of the sower is the Word of God (Lk 8:11) and because the Kingdom government of Jesus cannot stay the same but must increase, that seed of His Kingdom must increase in us. It must increase in each of us so that it can affect our families, our churches, our communities and our nation. That’s why the seed is growing in us.
