Walls Not Prevail

wallcastle

The walls of Jericho, though formidable as they were, could not prevail and keep Israel out of where Israel was supposed to be. Those walls held great fame in the land. They were not something anyone or anyone’s army would even attempt to breach. Israel did not even have to breach the walls. The supremacy of the authority and presence of God and the glory of God breached the walls so that they fell down flat.

“By faith, the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho for seven days, and the walls fell flat.” (Heb.11:30, Msg)

Getting To God-Ordained Appointments

TalkingPointing

We have appointments to get to in 2015. If we listen to what seems to be apparent and logical and reasonable and live according to those things, it is possible that we will not get to God-ordained appointments. Trying to live by what others say can result in the sad report of Acts 27:20 “all hope was taken away”—that is the point at which people give up and stop trying. For the coming days of our lives we best listen and take Paul’s example and Paul’s instruction who said “I believe God” (Acts 27:25) and “…The Word is near you, even in your mouth and in your heart”… (Rom.10:8, NKJV). Let’s stop trying to live by things said BY OTHERS and start living by things said BY US. (Cf. Prov.15:30; 18:21)

Effect Of Words And Thoughts

Silhouetted female in front of sunset sky   Why are our words, thoughts and attitudes so important? Because they are registered somewhere in our mortal bodies. They affect us as well as others. “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” (Prov.23:7a, NKJV) “Words are not mere words, you know. If they’re not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul.” (2Tim.2:16b-17a, Msg) (cf.Prov.18:21, Msg)

The Foundational Thing: I Believe God

Boat_Paul_RomeFrom the stormy Acts 27 account Paul decided, in the midst of a dangerous situation, to not live by things said BY OTHERS. The foundational thing he said was in v.25 “I believe God”. He believed the thing said in v.24 “you must be brought before Caesar”; and HE SAID that thing also. Other things he said that were contrary to what was apparent: v.22 “there shall be no loss”; v.24 “fear not”; v.24 “all will be saved”. All the other 275 people and their authorities (unbelievers) were crying out contrary things but Paul did not live according to what they said; he lived according to what he had been instructed and what he had been instructed, HE SAID. Not only did Paul firmly stand on what HE SAID but, eventually, those in authority began to say what he said and all were saved.

(This is the fifth excerpt from Marty’s article “By Others Or By Us?“ which was published in SEEC Magazine [Marty and Kathy’s ministry magazine]. More excerpts will be posted Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Previous excerpts may be read by scrolling down this page.) Marty will be speaking at the Kingdom Equipping Congress Mar.4-6, 2015.

Each Standing With The Other

DisciplesBoat

As the people of God assemble today may there be people who discover that the people of God care about them and what they are going through. May there be assurances that each is standing with the other to get to the other side of the lake in spite of the storm.

“So that there should be no division or discord or lack of adaptation [of the parts of the body to each other], but the members all alike should have a mutual interest in and care for one another.” (1Cor.12:25, Amp)

Forgiveness Is An Investment

LookFuture

As we release others, dead or alive, from what they owe us in apology for pain, hassle, grief or injustice, we are freed up from the debt we have built. Debt erased from our future will change it. Forgiveness is an investment in your future.—KG

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” (Matt.6:12, KJV)

Because Someone Said

Paul had a God-ordained appointment to get to. He was traveling in a ship that was in the middle of a storm and PointingTalkingthe ship was in danger of sinking. Other people were making decisions about that journey and about that ship and were saying things that were in agreement with what was apparent in the present set of circumstances. In Acts 27:17 experienced seamen were “fearing” and in v.20 things had escalated to the point that the report is “all hope was taken away”. In v.11 the centurion had already listened to something said by an experienced sea captain and was putting 276 people in peril for their lives and v.12 says “the majority favored the plan of putting to sea”. Experienced people and the majority put the loss of the ship and everyone’s life in peril because “someone said”.

Keep The Amen Alive

man in praise

Keep the “Amen” alive in you;  that “Amen” the Holy Spirit put down deep in you when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  Worship, read the Word, listen to the teaching of the Word, share your testimony.  Stir up the “Amen” to Who God is and to His Word.

“Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus.  In Him, this is what we preach and pray, THE GREAT AMEN, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, PUTTING HIS YES WITHIN US.  By His Spirit He has stamped us with His eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what He is destined to complete.” (2Cor.1:20-22, Msg)
