As the people of God assemble today may they be refreshed and inspired in the knowledge that Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father is their Lord and Savior and oversight in spite of the chaos and difficulties. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All power in heaven and on earth is given to me. 19 So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach them to obey everything that I have taught you, and I will be with you always, even until the end of this age.” (Matt.28:18-20)

Whose Hands is the Church In
The people of God already have a King and Redeemer and no politician can replace Him. Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God is our redeemer and Messiah. To quote Dale Gentry, “We have had conservative presidents but not one has called the nation to a fast. Conservativism will not replace godliness.” And while mentioning conservativism, consider a poignant measure on the future of the matter: “The weakened Republican Party will not be successful in opposing important policy shifts. It will be engaged in an internal ideological struggle. Its main question will be the extent to which it can continue to accommodate the ideas of its religious faction and yet expand its base to appeal to a broad coalition who sees the religious right as the albatross around the neck of the party” (Sam Soleyn, “Shaking the Heavens and the Earth” http://www.soleyn com) We are standing at a tipping point in this nation that we have not quite approached to date and, for the most part, are not even aware of. The Church was never meant to place itself or its hope in the hands of political parties, candidates or governing or judicial entities created by men. The Church will only function the way it was created and ordained to function, standing on the foundation of the rule of God, that is, Kingdom principles. When the king of Sodom opened his arms wide to include Abraham in the economy of his own kingdom, Abraham quickly responded: Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have sworn to the LORD God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, 23 that I will not take a thread or a sandal thong or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ (Gen.14:22-23) You become a lackey for the one who fills your pocket and grants you favors and they never let you forget they are the one who did it.

A Symbol in a Dream
Kathy—I learned some surprising things on my first search for the meaning of a symbol. 1) My first surprise was how God answered my specific questions and then offered to confirm those discoveries. 2) When I look back now, I’m also shocked that I could hear Him because I was nervous about asking. 3) Another surprise was that He directed me to an Encyclopedia instead of the Bible or an obvious Christian source. 4) Another surprise was how one symbol discovery could open so many dreams. These were things I discovered back in my twenties because I’d gotten a call out of the blue from a lady I didn’t know well. She called to ask me if I interpreted dreams and I was stunned. I had prayed to be able to interpret dreams since childhood, but to that point, I could count the dreams I had interpreted on one finger! So, I hesitated and stuttered, “I think I can, but how did you know?” She said she knew because the Lord told her to call me. Well, that phone call was both confirming and scary. It was my first step toward committing to follow through with the task of understanding symbolism and interpreting dreams.

Big Picture
Melissa—We are talking about big picture and small picture here. Awareness is how you affect your surroundings, and focus is how your surroundings affect you. This simple statement shows the importance of the matter. We are built to affect, engage, take charge of, and permeate our surroundings, not let them do this to us. This point cannot be stressed enough: we hold the cure!

Politicians or Awakening?
What we need more than better politicians is an awakening move of God… in the Church, then the nation. God will never share, with mere political parties, the power He has designed to be exercised through the Church. “Politicians are not to be looked to for complete social reform… The Church has been losing influence in America because it has been relying on politics to stop the moral and spiritual decay in society. Politics will not catalyze the change; it is simply a reflection of the environment. If the environment is rooted in Christian values, the politics of America will be rooted in Christian values… The spiritual revival and renewal of Christian faith needed in America will never originate from Washington. Once the spiritual climate changes, Washington will be changed. If the American Church thinks her salvation […] comes from Washington and a God-fearing president, then her hope is rooted in a counterfeit… God’s Church is not dependent on elections; it is dependent upon His Word, which declares, ‘… I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’” (Matt 16:18)1 (Dennis Lindsey, “God and Politics”) If we are not careful, we can just get to looking around and saying, “‘Such and such’ is what’s going on” and forget that God is at work.

God Communicating in Symbolic Language
Kathy–I’m sure we have all wondered at times why everybody does not dream literal, plain dreams with clear communication and no search and discovery needed. Joseph in the New Testament saw the angel in a dream and understood clearly that the instructions were to flee to Egypt with Baby Jesus and Mary. Those were literal instructions that they could act on and they did. However, if we consider other scriptural examples of how God communicated, He often communicated with the prophets of the Old Testament in symbolic language. The dry bones in Ezekiel and the feet of iron and clay on the statue in Daniel were symbolic. Even Jesus often spoke in parables instead of literal details, and you know He was communicating with the crowds that kept gathering. Yet sometimes even the disciples had to ask Him for clarity later. So, I suspect that having to pursue understanding is part of God’s plan and purpose, probably for reasons like, 1) seeking God for wisdom builds relationship with the Lord, and 2) pursuing understanding is how we develop an ear to hear, and 3) every time we pursue God’s wisdom and clarity, we always discover more than we went looking for.

Self Awareness
Melissa–I want to talk about one piece that is absolute necessity in the year to come. That piece is self awareness. This may sound like a simple thing you would think comes naturally, but that is not so. We have become so self-focused that we tend to confuse the two. They are not the same. Self-focus is the Band-Aid that falls off with every raging flood. Self awareness connects the dots, and raises a standard against the flood (Isa. 59:19). Let’s look at the literal definitions of the two words. Awareness means informed, alert, knowledgeable, sophisticated. (dictionary com) Focus means a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity. As a geological term, focus means the point of origin of an earthquake. (dictionary com) Focus is narrow, where as awareness is broad. I particularly love how focus is the point of origin of an earthquake. Well, if that doesn’t just say it! Self-focus leads to personal earthquakes, and self awareness keeps us from them.

Things Shaken
As the people of God assemble today may they look into and consider the Word of God which is the foundation of their individual lives and the role and order of the Ekklesia (the governing body of Christ). May we each realize our place in the body of Christ and work toward an orderly, essential, impacting function in this present culture and responsibly respond to the shaking of “all” things, including inadequacies and misconceptions in ourselves. Heb.12:27,TPT,”Now this phrase “once and for all” clearly indicates the final removal of things that are shaking, that is, the old order, so only what is unshakable will remain.”

What is Going On?
A question I have heard asked repeatedly over the last few months is: “What is going on?” There is a sudden dawning upon people and nations that things are not the way they used to be while there is an underlying desire within the breast of the typical person for things to go back to the way they were in spite of the ever-present fear that they won’t. Even if you could get back to “the good old days” you would find them woefully inadequate in their revelation and application for today. Current events are not just the result of bad politics or bad politicians. They were not left in charge. An apostolic order for accommodating and advancing the Kingdom of God in the earth was the design when Jesus ascended to the right hand of Majesty on High (Acts 1:3). Things, therefore, must shake and adjust so that the church and the nations might come into correct order.

Seeing Clearly This Year
Kathy—Seeing clearly with our natural eyes is called 20/20 vision. I believe as we head further into the new year that we are in a God-planned time in history to see more clearly than ever before. I declare that understanding and clarity are coming to both physical eyes and the eyes of our soul and spirit. I truly expect keener vision and perceptivity in the months ahead that will equip us for successful and effectual days of walking out the purposes of God in our lives.
