Jesus Still has Need of You

Marty Gabler—Like Peter, scores of vanquished and beaten-down people have resigned themselves to obscurity and self-imposed penance. Their eyes once bright with hope and expectation are now dull with day-to-day sameness and lackluster existence. Rather than vibrantly walking out purpose as a daily-discovery they endure the rigors of accusing past-opportunity and the heavy yoke of indictment. While chafing under the sandy grind of unrealized fulfillment they eventually master a posture which lessens the painful contortion of their faces so that they appear to “be making it just fine.” Though the preoccupying buzz of obscurity is interfering with the message of restoration, this same Jesus wants them told that He still has need of them and that purpose still awaits. Mark 16:7 “But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He said to you.'” (NAS) The reason Jesus sent that invitation to Peter was because He was “going before” (Strong) in order to “lead forward” (Thayer). Jesus does not push backward, He brings forward.

Subtle Things Changing Things

Subtle things in the Bible that no one noticed until they were put in place and Tiny flame.jpegactivated by the timing and purpose of Yahweh: (1) One Hebrew in Pharaoh’s prison (Joseph); (2) 300 men on a hillside outside a Midianite camp (Gideon); (3) 14 yr. old with a slingshot (David); (4) A baby born in an obscure stable (Jesus); (5) 12 nonsdescript men sitting at the feet of Jesus (ragtag, imperfect group of disciples); (6) A little boy’s lunch (feeding of 5,000); (7) 120 people having a prayer meeting in an upper room (believer-empowering, city-rocking move of Holy Spirit). Result: History Changed! Conclusion: Don’t give up!

Wisdom out of Dark Hours

It appeared on more than one occasion that Joseph would not finish his course.  Power-people seemed to step in his way around every other corner.  ManPraiseSunriseYet, being sold for a slave was one of the steps that assured Joseph would get where he was supposed to be, when he was supposed to be there. (Gen.50:20)  The trying worked out some things in Joseph that he couldn’t take with him to the palace. In the dark hours and the obscure places, he gained godly wisdom that would soon be in demand.  (Jer.15:11a) “I will make you strong in these trying times to accomplish My good.” We are praying you discover daily God’s timing keeping you on course in your life to accomplish His good.
