For Righteousness Sake
Let’s see how the “persecuted for righteousness sake” (Matt.5:10) scripture unfolds. The root of this blessing is righteousness. Righteousness is an offensive move toward a God-goal, and the persecution is generated because of it. This verse does not say, blessed are the persecuted for theirs is the kingdom. Many have made persecution the focus and left people with a tendency to glorify persecution, even if the conflict is not about righteousness. For example, it’s not about righteousness when a zealous person wants to witness to get another notch in their pistol and they take every opportunity to throw pearls before swine (Matt 7:6). That’s persecution for obnoxiousness’ sake. In the office, when a Pharisaical legalist points out every sin and calls down hellfire, he’s persecuted for condemnation’s sake. The zealot and legalist are not being persecuted for righteousness’ sake. However, from the ripple effect, even though these people have misrepresented God and generated their own persecution and bruises, they become the defensive victim, and being a defensive victim is a common view of Christianity, but not sonship.

Blessed Are Those Who Are Persecuted
Let’s take another turn from defensive to offensive in the constitution of the Kingdom, in Matt 5. As surely as meekness generates the blessing of earthly inheritance in v. 5, and being pure in heart generates the blessing of seeing God show up in v. 8, just so v. 10 tells us what generates
Kingdom power in our lives: Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Happy and to be envied are those pursued with harassment or oppressive treatment because they have aligned with righteousness. What is the blessing? God’s governmental power IS (present tense) theirs. His authority and authorization and strategic wisdom and supernatural resources are, present tense, theirs. (As well as now-power, v. 12 extends the blessing to future reward in heaven also.)

Bankrupt Without Him
I believe that part of maturing as sons is moving from a defensive to an offensive perspective. An example is in the BEATITUDES (which can be considered the constitution of the Kingdom). Matt 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Being poor in spirit might seem to be a needy and defensive posture at first. But we move from defense to offense in our mindset by realizing that the poor in spirit are not the insignificant but those who know they are bankrupt without Him and therefore welcome adoption as a son and gladly receive the key to their Father’s household and submit to His rule of power and government order. There is no insignificance in that scenario.

The Holy Spirit Is Enough
Tomorrow is Pentecost Sunday and it has been well said that the Holy Spirit is the most important Person on earth. The groaning of creation for the sons
of God to be revealed is met with the power of the Holy Spirit in bringing the realm of heaven into history. We are bringing the realm of heaven into history by (1.) first receiving the Baptism with the Holy Spirit and then through (2.) demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit and (3.) ministering the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
In the face of the present overwhelming need of this world I say, “The Holy Spirit is enough.” The fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal.5:22-25) manifests in this earth the conduct and relationships of heaven. We must get the conduct and relationships of heaven into earth. The gifts of the Holy Spirit (1Cor.12:7-11) manifest in this earth the power of heaven over our limitations. We must get the power and benefits of heaven into earth. Limitations bring groaning, despair and hopelessness. The fruit of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit bring release. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. Come Holy Spirit, we need Thee.
(Marty & Kathy will be ministering on Pentecost Sunday the message of the most important Person on earth at The 4:12 Center at 9:30a.m. Info and location: http://the412center.shutterfly.com/)

Maturing Beyond A Defensive Posture
One major change we see coming to the Body of Christ is maturing beyond a defensive posture. Whether they see themselves as victims or not, too many
believers function from mainly a defensive posture. I know the word “offense” is offensive in church circles, but I’m using it like a football term with offensive and defensive players. Defense is focused on blocking the enemy’s success. Offense is pushing toward a goal rather than defending one. The Kingdom of God in action changes us to sons who make offensive moves to take ground in our own lives and in our sphere of responsibility. We have to learn to think and plan offensively.

Wisdom Absent In Victim Mindset
It’s possible to hear more talk about victims around the church than sons; victim of circumstances, of poverty, of illness, of experience and of devils. Even
people’s eschatology can make them a victim if they believe they’re helpless in a deteriorating ecology and economy and hopeless in a world that cannot be what God created it to be and they cannot expect to overcome darkness but must eventually cry “uncle” and escape. Then victim is a logical condition, but it’s not a son’s condition. There is no denying that we can be victimized by experiences in life. We can be done wrong, attacked and suffer pain and injustice, but there is still no wisdom in taking on a victim mindset of never being able to overcome the damage done.

What A Victim Sees
The answer to the question, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” is self—self that is not confident that God is for us, self that builds a case of “WHY” God shouldn’t be for us,
and self that is so captive that he can’t see God is bigger than his issues. That self won’t let God be for us. So, then self can turn you into a victim instead of a son. Victims don’t see themselves as God sees them. The victim-mentality is an old, worn path all the way back to the Garden. The first question God ever asked a man was, “Where are you?” That was not because God didn’t know where Adam was. He was asking, “Where are you that you are avoiding Me?” The second question was, “Who told you you were naked? Why have you condemned yourself?” The third question was, “Did you eat the fruit that I told you not to eat?” “Have you been disobedient, son?” Instead of owning up as a confident son, Adam became a victim and answered: “This woman YOU gave me did it.” Poor Adam was “unjustly suffering” because of a woman God created, and he saw himself victim-like not son-like.

No Fear of Being De-sonned
No Fear of Being De-sonned (Kathy)
The offensive strategy of sons of God gathering to strengthen and equip and be enabled to serve their place of purpose and calling in life is going to pivot on the individual believer getting this and maturing into a confident
Father/son relationship. That’s a relationship that cannot be shaken by mistakes or failures, a bond that cannot be weakened by hard times and a relationship that can’t be manipulated by accusation or condemnation. Condemnation is probably the #1 most successful tool against Christians because it causes people to live like yoyo’s—up one minute, down the next—vitally involved one month and feeling totally disqualified the next. Condemnation is deadly because it measures your salvation by your behavior and disqualifies you with every error, sin or failure. Here’s a key: condemnation can only do you damage when your focus is works and behavior instead of relationship. Sons know they don’t get into the family by being perfect, so they don’t fear being de-sonned because of imperfection. Condemnation always connects your behavior to your self-worth, but God doesn’t. So, mature sons must learn to think like their Father and not remain an immature son who is likely to disinherit himself.

Limitations To Sonship
(Kathy) So many challenges church leaders are facing are signals of how much this transition (from a religious mindset of church as an obligation to God
to being effectual sons of God) is needed: finances decreasing, the same number of broken families in church as out, local churches losing respect and influence in the community and people losing motivation to be a part of the local church. Rather than be discouraged, we can take these things as a sign that it is time to take new ground. If we will move from traditional expectations and limitations to sonship, we’ll move into the empowerment of relationship where people are no longer just members of a church but Sons of God gathering to strengthen and equip and be enabled to serve their place of purpose and calling in life.

“Offense: The Kingdom In Action” by Kathy Gabler
“Offense: The Kingdom In Action” (Kathy Gabler)
I believe we are in a transition moving from a religious mindset that views church as meetings that satisfy an obligation to God to realizing we are all sons of God gathering to be effectual, by living our lifetime demonstrating His Kingdom-come and will-being-done on earth as it is in heaven. This is not a new transition. It’s just a time of greater momentum with more obvious results and changes. The yeast is spreading, permeating our understanding. (Matt. 13:33)

Walking In Kingdom Principles
Walking In Kingdom Principles
If we do not understand and walk in Kingdom principles it is doubtful that the King will willingly release to us His authority lest it be squandered and bring shame to His name. It would be foolish trying to repair a truck with a manual for a computer or trying to do surgery on someone using an instruction manual for fly fishing. Even so, it is not possible to operate in Kingdom authority the way typical men think and operate in the world system. Yet, as we yield to the time and processing of the Kingdom dynamic of His proving, the world will see the Kingdom and not just hear of the Kingdom while relegating it to a merely future context. The hope of the Kingdom that is yet to come is evidenced in its impact in the present and that impact comes through willing agency.

HOW DO WE LEARN TO OPERATE IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?
HOW DO WE LEARN TO OPERATE IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD?
Listed here are some factors to consider when desiring to operate in kingly authority: (1) search out and learn principles such as the one found in Luke 16. There is more to come in the Kingdom
and we are presently (2) wrestling with the trials and proving grounds that will allow us the power and authority we so desperately need for ourselves and others. (3) Issues of continual defeat in our lives prevent and hold back the evidence of the Kingdom of God. Therefore, we must aggressively take hold of the Kingdom where we have been tenaciously clinging to the weaknesses that set us up for continual defeat. (4) It is plainly stated that if the man in Lk 16:10-12 cannot be trusted with money, he will most definitely not be trusted with power and authority that gets done what money falls short of doing. Quality decisions and relationship over time engender trust. (5) Ongoing relationship to other people in the Kingdom will bring us into both knowledge and experience that will enable us to take part in the dynamic of the Kingdom.

COMING THROUGH HUMAN AGENCY — PROCESS
COMING THROUGH HUMAN AGENCY — PROCESS
According to the language Jesus used in Matthew, the coming of the Kingdom of God is a process. Mt 6:10 “Thy Kingdom come.” The word “come” in that verse means: to come forth, to find place or influence; to be established (Thayer). This is not a magical popping into existence. The Kingdom comes forth, finds place and influence and is established in and through human agency today just as it came through human agency in Lk 4:21, Mt 12:28, Lk 9:10, and Lk 11:20. It came through Jesus and through His disciples. (cf. Jn 14:12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater {works} than these shall he do; because I go to the Father. NAS)

Jesus, The Message And The Kingdom
Though Jesus used the term “kingdom” often, He nowhere defined what He meant by the phrase. George Eldon Ladd notes that we must therefore assume that (1) the content of the phrase was so commonly understood by the people as to need no definition or that (2) the meaning of Jesus’ proclamation is to be interpreted in terms of His total mission and conduct.
In Lk 4:21 Jesus proclaimed, “This day is this scripture fulfilled.” The words and actions of Jesus are, therefore, the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is realized in the very ministry of Jesus. The key to the meaning of the Kingdom is Christology. Jesus not only utters the message of the Kingdom of God, He is Himself the message (J. Jeremias).

Delegated Rule
The Kingdom of God came into the earth through the Person of Jesus. JESUS (1) comes to earth, (2) learns obedience as a servant, pleases the Father in His obedience and, in so doing, (3) brings the authority, the rule, the reign of the Father into history and (4) experiences victory in every confrontation with the kingdom of darkness. God’s rule and
reign are today evidenced through delegated authority that proceeds out of JESUS’ all-inclusive authority (Mt 28:18). Just as God’s rule has entered the earth in history through the Person of Jesus, His rule enters the earth today as His authority flows through His sons who are being made in the image of JESUS. (Rom.8:29)

Discipline And Sacrifice
Discipline And Sacrifice
In order to participate in the authority and benefits of the Kingdom of God, we must understand and embrace the characteristics of the King of the Kingdom (cf. Ps 103:7). Requisites may include desire, discipline and even sacrifice if we are to take the Supreme Servant, Jesus as our example.

The Bi-Product
It is not bad to have needs. It is not wrong to desire to receive from God. But there should come a point of development in relationship with God that focus on needs and receiving is not the basis for the relationship. Need is how and why we come to Jesus but there should be growth and development from that point. There should be a point at which seeking to be part of the expression of Father’s Kingdom and pleasing Father and being productive for Father is the main thrust of the relationship and His meeting our needs is just a bi-product of facilitation.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matt.6:33)

Applied Responsibility
Applied Responsibility
The teachings, experiences and writings of the apostles matured, developed and equipped believers to be agency through which the Kingdom would be evidenced in this earth (Acts 8:12; 14:22; 19:8; 28:23,31; 1Co 4:20). Simply put, there is more to being a Christian than merely accepting Jesus as Savior and waiting for an opportunity to get our ticket to heaven punched. A realization of the Kingdom of God, a seeking of the Kingdom of God (Mt 6:33) will take us beyond mere “heaven-consciousness” to a maturing/developing process which results in more applied responsibility as sons, and that results in more visibility of the power of God in this present world and that meets man’s needs while bringing glory to God.

The Kingdom, The Process, The Benefit
The Kingdom, The Process, The Benefit
Most of us have been vaguely aware of things going on in the spirit realm and their effect in the natural realm. We may not have been acutely tuned in to what is happening but we are grateful that they have been happening and that there are, at least, some results that are noticeable and some that are of benefit to our way of thinking.
We are glad to be identified with Christianity. People who first came into contact with Jesus in His earthly ministry noticed His miracles of healing and bread-breaking and followed Him for those benefits. They did not seem to produce or accomplish anything except fill the ranks as onlookers and receivers of benefits. His twelve disciples followed him for a few years as he spoke of and demonstrated the Kingdom of God. In teaching them to pray, He taught them a prayer of offering themselves as agency for the coming of that Kingdom into this earth (Mt 6:9-13). He spent His last forty days on this earth speaking to them of the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:3) and then He sent His Holy Spirit to empower them for their part in demonstrating the Kingdom (Lk 24:49; Acts 1:8).

Invisible Influence
Invisible Influence (Kathy)
Isaiah 30:19-21, is another pivotal scripture for this year as it addresses coming out of a siege and getting downloads from the Holy Spirit. For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; you shall weep no more; He will be very gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When He hears it, He will answer you. And Jehovah gives you the
bread of adversity and the water of affliction; yet your teachers shall not be removed into a corner any more, but your eyes shall see your teachers. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left. “A word behind you,” indicates an invisible influence, that Divine Teacher that will prompt with conscience or memory or supernatural knowledge or wisdom. I believe this year we should expect more Holy Spirit promptings like that “voice behind” with that instructive glimpse or a download while driving or a dream that impacts or a vision that equips. Therefore, it is essential that we recognize and acknowledge glimpses like dream parts, momentary visions and thoughts out of context. A helpful 1-2-3, to train our thinking for Holy Spirit downloads this year would be, 1) acknowledge, 2) consider, 3) connect. For His input to have impact, we must connect it to our lives through action or change or as a tool, a strategy, a weapon, a skill or a gift. And to connect it, we must first consider it until we understand it. Put your seat belt on and expect that “word behind you” to be louder and more frequent this year.

The Pace Of Purpose
The Pace Of Purpose (Kathy)
Another consideration in that gap between expectation and manifestation is the pace of purpose during process. We must adjust our passions to the pace of purpose
rather than trying to adjust God’s purpose to the pace of our passions. Whether we can see how or not, our purpose always connects to other people and a bigger picture. So, the pace of our purpose will ebb and flow at times because of who and what surrounds us in a season. Expectations and discernment can get bogged down during the ebbs, so keeping our “expector” above the bog is essential. I am not implying that it is a new thing for the Holy Spirit to release insights, but I believe they are going to increase in dimension and impact to a new level this year.
