In the Program

The young woman was in the throes of birth pangs and she was screaming at the top of her lungs for relief. She and her husband had taken classes over the previous months and he was supposed to be coaching her with her breathing. She had him by the chest hairs, calling him names and Programoptindemanding this thing be over with as quickly and painlessly as possible. The young man had never seen his quiet, little, soft-spoken wife like this in all the six years of their marriage. The nurse grabbed the young man’s shoulder and said sir, “You must tell your wife to breathe, breathe!” He turned to the nurse, grabbing her by the shoulders and, totally exasperated, yelled, “Breathe, breathe nothing! We want off this program!”

The beauty and unity of her assisted birth by her husband was so ideally desired that they could not imagine anything that could possibly upset the serene, well-planned event that would make the memory of a lifetime for them and their precious child. But when difficulties arose and comfort zones were totally surpassed by the rude reality of the moment, they both decided that they wanted off the program.

The program of the Lord Jesus Christ is that His redeemed ones would be salt and light, reconcilers of men to God and manifest Him to a groaning creation. There is no “opt out” button included with the program. “Salvation does not mean flight and escape from the lower material world to a higher spiritual world; it means the redemption of the realm of human history by the invasion of the spiritual realm of God, so that the historical realm is lifted to a new and higher level of existence.” (George Eldon Ladd, “The Theology of the New Testament”, p.489)

Over the Top

Overthetop
May you go over the top and beyond what you have hoped for in gaining victory in your life, your health, your finances and your calling. May you not just get up to ground level but soar beyond any measure you have know heretofore.

”It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not.  They are new every morning; GREAT AND BEYOND MEASURE IS YOUR FAITHFULNESS.  The Lord is my portion or share, says my living being (my inner self); therefore will I hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.” (Lam.3:22-24, Amp)

Taking Ground

StandwithswordIf marriage statistics are stalking yours or if your finances are boiling down to coins in a can or if you have been hit with an undeniable diagnosis, lift your head and CHOOSE LIFE, no matter how difficult it is because the Word says: it is not too difficult for you, (Deut 30:11), it isn’t too much for you, it’s not out of your reach.  The word is very near you, in your mouth, in your mind and in your heart.  You can do this.  Deut 30:20 says to CHOOSE LIFE by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice and by holding fast to Him.  That same verse tells us why, so that we and our descendants may live long in the land which we possess.  Choosing life is taking ground.  We take acreage out of every cocoon of circumstances that we overcome.  We gather real-estate that becomes inheritance for at least four generations as well as inspiration for all those that feel the ripple of our life!

In the Face of the Inevitable

LionmouthtongueIt is difficult to even remember you have a choice when you are pinned to the ground and the inevitable, unavoidable and inescapable is in your face like a 400lb., full grown, male lion!  In a true safari record, a hunter shot a lion, but it kept coming and hit the man with a full-body-force lunge that slammed the man on his back and flung his rifle into the tall grass!  Nailed to the ground, the hunter was about to be eaten.  It was inevitable, unavoidable and inescapable, but the man CHOSE LIFE.  He stuck his hand in that monster’s gaping mouth and grabbed its tongue, twisted it and shoved it back into the lion’s throat.  The desperate grip kept the tongue at such an angle that the lion couldn’t even shut his jaw.  That hunter lay there, determined to follow through on his choice while the hot breath of his enemy filled his nostrils and thick saliva slimed down his arm and every bone in the man’s body vibrated under the growl of the glaring beast.  The man continued the choke-hold for forty-five minutes while his guide ran for the jeep and returned to run over the lion and kill it!  Choose Life, even in the face of the inevitable, unavoidable and inescapable.

Retraining Choice

TrainingLeopardSince choice can be an automatic reflex, we must train ourselves to CHOOSE  LIFE.  Of course, re-training ourselves is not a stroll in the park.  Re-training is never easy because we can’t take down-time to work on it.  Re-training happens during real-life problems that just can’t be scheduled.  They never come at a good time. Hell’s attacks are never fair.  It is very difficult to contradict your emotions, especially when you’ve cried enough to salt a creek and used enough Kleenex to rub your nose right off your face.  How do you choose life when you are dealing with relationship issues with someone who won’t even try?  How do you choose life when you’re weary because you’ve already made that choice for months, for years, yet you are still smothering in changelessness?  It’s difficult to choose life, again and again, when you’re still in the grip of pain and it’s taunting you daily. But in spite of difficulty we must CHOOSE LIFE in order to bring CHANGE in our lifetime.

God’s Supremacy

Godshand
May we see the hand of the Lord moving everywhere we look today.
May we see His possibilities. May we consider the supremacy and viability
of His Word in each situation and declare that supremacy and viability.

“At the end of ·that time [the days], I, Nebuchadnezzar, ·looked up [L lifted my eyes] toward heaven [acknowledging God’s supremacy], and ·I could think normally again [ my reason was restored to me]! Then I ·gave praise to [blessed] the Most High God; I gave honor and glory to him who lives forever. “God’s ·rule is forever [ sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty], and his kingdom continues for ·all time [ all generations].” (Dan.4:34, Expanded Bible)

Choice by Reflex

Kneereflex
Something to understand about choice is that it is often a reflex. When we get boxed in by conditions and circumstances, we are likely to automatically make choices whether we mean to or not.  An unconscious choice for many is to ignore or deny the cocoon and conditions.  Or, without realizing it, we can choose to believe we have no choice and can only be a victim.  It is also sometimes easy to choose to trust self or others instead of God.  However, only choosing to trust God is choosing life.

Put a Fresh Heart in You

Freshbreath
“As the people of God assemble today, may Jesus Himself and God our Father
surprise them in their midst with His gifts of help and edification and put a fresh,
courageous heart in each one and invigorate their work.

”So, friends, take a firm stand, feet on the ground and head high. Keep a tight grip on what you were taught, whether in personal conversation or by our letter. May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.” (2Thess.2:15-17, Msg)
