Recognizing Anger In Grief

CloudLightSunINABILITY or REFUSAL to be comforted can be a sign that the roots of grief have become infected with  anger and unforgiveness.  It is sometimes difficult to recognize anger or unforgiveness because they have many faces.  Anger can SEEM like a responsibility. ‘I must stay angry to protect my family.  I must stay angry to protect myself from this ever happening again.’  Or, ‘I must stay angry to insure the guilty party does not go unpunished!’  Anger can even seem to be a positive force and be used as a form of power or control in chaotic times.  However, the long range repercussions are not good.   James 1:20, “For man’s anger does NOT bring about the righteous life that God desires. (NIV)

Supply For Repair

ReplacingBoards
May the Lord bring us such wonderful blessings as to prevent
deterioration and loss. May He bless us in the matters where we
need restoration and repair. May there be supply for repair and replacement.

Living Beyond Grief

LookingIntoDistanceIf we do not receive comfort, we become CRIPPLED by GRIEF.  One of the tell-tale signs that GRIEF has crippled a person is they continually rehearse their trials until the listener fully understands and relives their experience.  They usually believe their experience is so unique that no one else can fully understand or sympathize.  Another mark of grief being in residence too long is one physical battle after another.  Receiving comfort closes the door on calamity or loss.  Continued grief keeps the door open, so calamity keeps coming! Hopelessness is not just emptiness, it is a vacuum that sucks in despair.  Likewise Grief can become a vacuum that draws more tragedy.  WE CANNOT LIVE THERE!

From Forfeit To Future

WomanWalkPathI know a lady who always viewed herself as a “Pastor’s Wife”.  When her husband died, the “pastor” died and she suddenly had no identity!  She mourned but did not move on to comfort.  In the heavy fog of grief she even considered suicide; but God “called her sons to her side to speak to her, encourage and instruct.”  She received the comfort and CHANGED from a woman in her 70’s wanting to forfeit her future to a woman who is passionately building the future as she travels and ministers to many!

Value And Influence

have value for us.  When we refresh someone or meet a need,

Like The Eagle

EagleHighSoar
May the people of God Most High not just look up and look around like the goose who hears honking from other geese and begins honking because they are honking, but may we be like the eagle that soars above it all so that we may gain proper perspectives for positive action that is guided by the better perspective.
“But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” (Isa.40:31, Amp)

Comfort Requires Change

WalkUphill
The man I mentioned with fifty years worth of “infection” around his
wound refuses to be comforted!  Why?  Why don’t people always move
on and welcome comfort?  Why do people refuse to “get over” some things?
I believe the major reason is  because receiving COMFORT requires CHANGE!

Being Comforted

ComfortingSomeoneGrief itself can feel too heavy to bear, like a smothering heaviness that dulls our passions and confuses our thinking.  It is a painful fog that can blur our vision and distort our reasoning abilities.  That is why, even though grief is a necessary first step, we cannot stay there.  We must move on.  Matt 5:4, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”  The second step to healing is “being comforted.”  Wounds to the soul and spirit are only healed when we move from GRIEF to COMFORT.

Step Toward Healing

StepForwardHealing does not come by ignoring wounds.  TIME does NOT heal ALL wounds.  I know a man in his sixties who continually rehearses his abusive childhood.  Some of the laws he lives by are actually memorials to those past injustices! Healing of the soul is almost always a process.  Believe it or not, the first step toward healing is grieving.  We invest TIME in relationships.  We invest SWEAT in our labors.  We invest HOPE in our plans.   Investment is God’s principle of seed time and harvest.  Built into sowing is the expectation of harvest; so grief is unavoidable when our efforts end in disappointment or loss.  Grief is a necessary part of the healing process because we need to cry and release the inner pain that medicine cannot touch.

Healed And Equipped

BandageDavid prayed in Psalm 41:4, “Heal my inner self.” (AMP)  We all have wounds in our lives that we cannot fit into a pretty picture:  experiences that seem to deny God’s goodness, injustices that oppose His plans, conditions that contradict faith, circumstances that seem to defy God’s presence and relationships that resist His love.  Jesus told us offenses would come, Matthew 18:7; and the truth is that we have all suffered the wounds of offense, injustice and loss.  But the greater issue is that our experiences can either Equip us or Cripple us.  It is the will of our Father that we be healed and equipped.

Over And Above Typical

CongregationWorshipAs the people of God assemble today, may they open up their hearts and
minds and release their faith in Him who is able to do far over and above
the typical in their midst so that they glorify Christ Jesus whom it is all about.

“God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or
guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around
but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Glory to God
in the church! Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!Glory down all the
generations! Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!” (Eph.3:20-21, Msg)

God Acting In Your Behalf

SunLeavesWaterMay the Lord God increase your awareness of His character and that He is acting out of it in your behalf. The people of God are recipients of the power of God and are bearers of that power.

shame.” (Joel 2:26b, NET)

Agreement To Heal Old Issues

HeartShapeByHandsA lady told me about a dream.  In the dream her son who is thirty was ten years old.  A snake was wrapped around his leg and it had bitten him.  The wound was below his knee and was bleeding and swollen.  She was afraid the dream was a warning of something bad about to happen to him.  However, the key to understanding the dream was her son’s age.  The issue was a historical wound because her son was a child again.  The wound he had obviously received at the age of ten was still not healed and had undoubtedly affected his walk in life or crippled part of his soul since that age.  I explained to her that God was calling her to intercession and agreement with His desire to address and heal this old issue of the heart. Tears came to her eyes suddenly as the significance was clear.  Her son’s father had left the family when the boy was ten years old.  God was saying its time for that wound to be healed so it will stop affecting his walk and destiny.

Doing Things That Have An Effect

wall stone

.

“…the people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits” (Dan.11:32) To know the “THY” of the Kingdom, to know His Word, to worship Him for Who He is, is to be available to “do things that have an effect” (Heb.:”do exploits”) according to v.32. It is possible to do exploits through the enablements of the Spirit, with money, with political power, with influence (Esther), talent and skills. If we will take what is at hand into our hand (and not limit it with the poverty of human experience), God will enable its effect beyond our abilities. Samson took the jawbone of an ass into his hand and slew 1,000 of the Philistines. Mere reason would reckon that an animal jawbone nor Samson could hold up long enough to slay a fraction of that number. But. . . “the people who know their God shall be strong and do exploits”  “Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Rom.12:2, Msg)  “For there is nothing to prevent the Lord from saving by many or by few.” (1Sam.14:6, Amp) “Whatever He says to you, do it.” (Jn.2:5)

Father Seen In Son

LionFatherSon
Though the Father was sitting upon a throne in heaven, He could be seen in the earth in Jesus as He interacted with His environment. And so it is with His sons today. (Jn.14:9; 20:21; 1Pe.2:9)

Same Yesterday, Today And Forever

There are experiences and Kingdom participation that offer themselves in day-to-day living. When my grandfather was a nine year old boy, a OuterSpaceEarthlarge farm wagon full of rocks ran over his leg between his knee and hip.  The big wheel crushed the leg bone the width of the wheel. There was no doctor available. That old Methodist family laid him on his bed, washed him and all nine brothers and sisters and both parents stood around his bed and prayed for him. The next morning when his sisters woke up they could not believe their ears for they heard him in the yard yelling and chasing his brother. There is nothing in the Bible that says God can’t or won’t do anything like that today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13:8). Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. (Ps.145:13) Our God and King, you have ruled since ancient times; you have won victories everywhere on this earth. (Ps.74:12, CEV)  Only a denying or a divorcing of a Kingdom mentality can remove us from the display of the wisdom of God Almighty. Atoms, molecules and cells respond to the voice of God in an instant and cooperate with His purposes in the moment and in time to come (2K.13:21). The tangible and the intangible both respond to the authority of God (Matt.8:16; 10:8; 12:28; Mk.3:15; 4:39; 5:15; Jn.9:32).

Great Method

The reason John and Charles Wesley and their

because of their method:  “Prayer and Bible
reading lead to sanctification”.  Now that’s
a great method.

The Limitless God

We must let go of theology that has been formed from human experience and man’s reasoning and look to the Word of God that shows us the StarsSpacelimitless God Whose Kingdom comes and comes and comes (Isa.9:7). That Kingdom comes right through time, right on through opposition, right through the shouts of dissenting mobs and even through walls (Lk.24:36). The Bible and worship bring us a picture of God and His Kingdom that is a great deal larger than the picture that the poverty-of-the-human-experience paints. In Acts 12:7-10, an angel walked Peter out of chains and prison like they were going for a stroll in the park. In Jn.2, Jesus turned plain water into the best wine that the host had tasted. The chemical composition of the water was so changed that it became wine. In His human body, that had typical density, Jesus defied gravity and the density of water and walked atop it with ease. Human reasoning tried sorely to deny the disciples of the extraordinary of God when it reasoned that what the disciples saw was only a ghost (Matt.14:26). Our King and His authority and His purposes will not be so easily dismissed. Peter joined Jesus and also walked on water (Matt.14:29). Therefore, the sons of the Kingdom are candidates to participate in what their King has set up.
