Subtle Things Happen

MARTY GABLER—Subtle things in the Bible that no one noticed until they were put in place and activated by the timing and purpose of Yahweh: (1) One Hebrew in Pharaoh’s prison (Joseph); (2) 300 men on a hillside outside a Midianite camp (Gideon); (3) 14 yr. old with a slingshot (David); (4) A baby born in an obscure stable (Jesus); (5) 12 nonsdescript men sitting at the feet of Jesus (ragtag, imperfect group of disciples); (6) A little boy’s lunch (feeding of 5,000); (7) 120 people having a prayer meeting in an upper room (believer-empowering, city-rocking move of Holy Spirit). Result: History Changed! Conclusion: Don’t give up!

The Kingdom of God is Advancing

MARTY GABLER—I invite you to fill in the blank:  In spite of ______________, the Kingdom of God is advancing.  The Kingdom is advancing in spite of anything you can put in that blank. You are part of something that is bigger than you are and it is still standing and it is still advancing. (1) The wall is still standing. You and I may only be small pebbles in its makeup but we are part of the wall that is still standing.  (2) You and I may not even vaguely resemble King David but we are part of David’s kingly, warring company. (3) You and I may not be Gideon but we are part of the Gideon company that does not consider the odds. We consider Him who has called us.  (4) You and I may not be the whole bucket of water that is being thrown on the fire but we are drops in that bucket that are putting out flames.  (Matt.16:18; Lk.1:33; Ps.145:13; Isa.9:7)

Subtle Things Making Big Statements

That Does Not Consider Odds

Marty when speaking at Hope For America in D.C.: “You and I may not be Gideon but we are part of the Gideon company that does not consider odds. We consider Him who has called us. We consider His Word and the dreams He has put in us.”

Tumbling Barley Loaf

LoafBarley.jpegThe Midianites were defeated when a barley loaf tumbled into their camp (Jud.7:13). But to become a battle-winning barley loaf, we barley grains must be 1.) ground together; 2.) mixed together and 3.) baked together before we can be tumbled into the enemy. Evidently, a well-baked loaf is better than a bunch of loose grains.

The Few Overcome Like the Many

Fewandmany
“They” have come too late to tell Gideon that God does not stand with the few and cause them to overcome like they were many. Gideon may be confused today. He may be hiding and pounding out a few pitiful pounds of grain today but be careful because tomorrow night he will be on the hillside with a pitcher and trumpet and rejoicing while an army of thousands turn their swords on one another in total confusion. “They” have come too late to convince Gideon that God doesn’t take the care or the time to work the impossible with a small handful.
