September is for Tuning In

The month of SEPTEMBER IS FOR TUNING IN. We will be tuning in to Holy Spirit’s frequency to pray more efficiently and to discern and to release words of knowledge and words of wisdom and counsel. We will be able to tune in because storms of life are passing that have, heretofore, interrupted communication from Father’s heart to ours. We will discover that Father is always attempting to redemptively communicate with us and that we are most welcome to tune in to His frequency of peace and wisdom.  (Prov.4:20, Msg) ”…listen well to my words; tune your ears to my voice.”

Suffering Relieved

As the people of God assemble today, may they be mindful of those who have suffered during the storm and flood. May they pray for those who are hurting and those who have lost so much. And may they be thankful for the mercies of the Lord that are new every morning, for great is His faithfulness. ”For He has not despised nor detested the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He listened.” (Ps.22:24, Amp)

Practical is not Always Adequate

In the middle of the storm, right on top of the troubled water Jesus said, “It is I”. The sufficiency of the boat was doubtful, the only practical thing that was available was less than adequate. It is Jesus who has given the promise and it is Jesus who will make good on it and it is Jesus that the storm cannot drive away! The storm cannot displace Jesus.  Just look at Who has given the promise. Jesus had far better transportation than a leaky old boat. The safest place on this occasion was not in the boat but on the water! Faith is for the purpose of getting out of the boat, not for asking Jesus to get into the boat (Matt. 14:28). Wishing a storm would have never come, asking why storms come, trying to lay blame for the storm are all distractions. Now is the time to look up from the threatening waters and walk with Jesus day by day “to the other side” (Matt.14:22). The safest place is with the Master of the storm.

Fear and Point of Reference

Concerning Hurricane Harvey we, on the Texas Gulf Coast, have just come through a series of unprecedented events and are now facing challenges that are unprecedented. In Matthew, the disciples were terrified because they had no point of reference for what was happening. When the disciples saw Jesus walking on the lake, that terrified them as much or more than the storm. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear (Mt 14:26). They did not see the circumstances allowing anyone, including Jesus, to walk on water. They considered these circumstances as those that take you down and never let you up. These men of God had heard the heart-wrenching stories of fishermen suffering disaster at sea. Each of them could vividly tell a story of a relative or a friend who had not been able to attain the goal of “the other side” (Matt.14:22)  Nerve-testing reports of failure to “reach the other side” had settled upon their ears and they had used them as foundation stones to build a point of reference which, at this point, filled their hearts with terror.

Victory was not on their minds. There was absolutely no thought of, nor any faith for, victory over this situation. Perseverance was no more than an idealistic point made by preachers on land, in the safety of storm-free weather. They hunkered down and just got ready for anything this set of circumstances wanted to throw at them. That is not how we make it. That is not how we persevere. That is not how we receive the promise. The prophetic gift always, annoyingly refuses to let us simply “grab a root and grunt.” Prophet Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Matt.14:27) Our focus is on Him Who is not bound by circumstances.

Message in the Aftermath of Harvey

There are so many kind and thoughtful acts going on in the midst of the anguish and aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. In scene after scene, day after day on news broadcasts the redemptive character of God Almighty can be seen flowing out of willing, even sacrificial people who give themselves, their energy and their resources without expecting anything in return. When the reporter asked a policeman from another city what made him come to Houston and put himself on the line for another city the policemen replied, “It’s my God-calling”. In the face of darkness, despair and relentless criticism that our nation has been gorging on in recent months, people are stepping up and demonstrating that there is a higher calling from a Higher Power. Many wanted a miraculous sweep of an almighty, unseen hand to sweep over Texas and solve every bit of suffering and waste. But, the answers, the miracles have come in the form of many, many seen hands that have been impassioned and enabled by that same miraculous God as they go about His Kingdom business in His authority and love. So many across the U.S. have bitterly spewed that they can’t see God or that God is hiding Himself, if, in fact, He does actually exist. Just continue watching the news from Texas and if you don’t see God, the only reason can be that you’ve got your heart closed.

Unusual Repercussions

A father, in Mark 9, brought his possessed son to Jesus. After the spirit was kicked out, the boy was pale as a corpse, so people started saying, “He’s dead.”  Here’s another equipping insight in this scenario: sometimes participation in a Kingdom Power exploit may set off unusual repercussions or seemingly unending ripples around you! After all the clashes and outbursts and kicking and screaming already, the aftermath continued.  Most of the people there were fearful and mouthing as if Jesus had just failed and ended up with a dead child.  However, like Jesus, the important thing is to stay on task.  He took the boy by the hand and raised him and he got up.  The anticipation was fulfilled and the participation was complete and Father’s business was finished. (Fifth excerpt from Kathy Gabler’s SEEC Magazine article “Sons Must Get It”.)

An Extraordinary Savior

The disciples were not expecting anything out of the ordinary from Jesus when He entreated them to row to the other side of the lake (while dealing with the throes of a violent storm). Ps. 50:21 “These things you have done, and I kept silence; you thought that I was just like you; I will reprove you, and state {the case} in order before your eyes.” (NAS) They may have been thinking that He was like them, being subject to the same limitations they were subject to. They were expecting ordinary things from an extraordinary Savior. If only they could have grasped the concept that He is THE MASTER OF THE STORM.  After Jesus had calmed the storm in Mk 4:41, they asked one another, “What manner of man is this?” (KJV). In other translations it reads “Who is this?” Not fully knowing who He was, and was therefore capable of, little did they know that He would be coming to join them walking on the water. “The Master of the Storm” is the answer to the question, “What manner of man is this?” When the Master is called on and relied on it is possible to get results that are out of the ordinary, for He has power over the power that threatens, even over the storm.

No Gouging in the Storm

We are praying and declaring that people in the storm who have to pay for products or services will not be gouged or cheated in any way. We pray that con men who try to take advantage of people will be shown for what they really are before people are duped. We pray that people will not be sold any product or repair that they don’t truly need.  We also pray that people will discover that damage is not as extensive as originally thought and that products and services end up costing less than estimated. “The Lord wants all scales and balances to be right; he wants all business agreements to be fair.” (Prov.16:11, ERV)
