Coming Into the New Year
KATHY—Coming into the new year we would be wise to make decisions based in the Word of God, the wisdom of God. If we go to God for a deposit of His peace and wisdom, we can make a choice that contradicts our feelings. That doesn’t mean you are giving up strategy and resolve, it means you’re just choosing not to stay upset while it comes. To stay upset is to choose death because your body will suffer, relationships will suffer and “emotional reactions” will become king in the house and set an atmosphere that draws more upset.

New Season, New Adjustments
Martin P. Gabler–Going into the new year or new season or new opportunities requires adjustments, decisions and determination on our part. When Israel left old Egypt for the new promised land, they increased the difficulty of the transition by taking old issues, and resultant attitudes, with them. It is OK to take a wilderness experience into promise. We all have some kind of wilderness experience at some point in life, if not several of them. Having gone through the not-so-fun wilderness events, we tend to come out on the other end with negative residue on us. Not “washing off” (Eph.5:26) the residue of the past will taint the tomorrow of promise. It is OK to go into promise with a wilderness experience. But it is destructive to go into promise with a wilderness heart. What we don’t leave in the wilderness, trips us up in the promised land. Achan’s family, as well as himself, suffered the consequences of a wilderness heart in the promised land (Josh. 7). What we don’t get over today, overcomes us tomorrow.

On the Precipice
MELISSA—We are on the precipice of major overturning on a local, national and spiritual level. We could have been born at any time, but we are here now and get to be a part of this! The chaos we are currently experiencing is being fueled by this: “Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this,” Isaiah 9:7. His government is unseating powers and principalities and WE GET TO BE A PART OF THIS!

Welcomed Changes
KATHY—After what you’ve been through in the last year, you just might be battle-weary, but I believe the New Year will bring welcomed changes. I’m not trying to imply that battles will stop suddenly and everyone will go on vacation. I’m saying many long-term battles will end because you finally win. “Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick, but a sudden good break can turn life around” (MSG, Prov.13:12). I expect some sudden good breaks in the year to come.

Gifts Received, Gifts Given
As the people of God assemble today, may they be thankful for the gifts they were able to give to celebrate Christmas and thankful for the gifts they received. But may we also acknowledge the gifts our Lord has given us and use them to edify others in the purpose for which He gave them. ”Each one has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So let us use our gift well and often. 1Pe.4:10,CEV—“Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor].”

For Thou Will be With Us in 2024
Father God, here we are in the year 2023 and approaching the end of the year. Yea though we walked through 2022, yea though we walked through 2023, yea though we enter into 2024, we will not fear any evil because thou art with us. You were with us back in 1960 and 1970 and 1990. You were with us in 2020 and you are with us again because you never leave us nor for sake us (Heb.13:5)!

Standing on Truth
MELISSA—Our stance in this season is standing — standing on the truth that our magnificent God is doing something BIG. He is establishing His plan for 2024 and beyond. We GET to be a part of this. We GET to be a change agent simply by standing. Yes, YOU have what is needed for this moment. Now is not the time to throw your hands up. Now is the time to take a deep breath and watch the glorious show unfolding in the days ahead. Yes, there will be shockers. BUT all we need to know is that those shockers are proof that God is shaking what can be shaken (Heb.12:27-28)! Thankful to be Your daughter, my King. “The kingdom of God doesn’t come by counting the days on the calendar. Nor when someone says, ‘Look here!’ or, ‘There it is!’ And why? Because God’s kingdom is already among you.” (Luke 17:21 MSG) It’s time to wake up, and be who we were born to be. Let’s win this war, as God has intended.

Expect Keener Vision
KATHY—Seeing clearly with our natural eyes is called 20/20 vision. I believe as we head into the new year that we are in a God-planned time in history to see more clearly than ever before. I declare that understanding and clarity are coming to both physical eyes and the eyes of our soul and spirit. I truly expect keener vision and perceptivity in the months ahead that will equip us for successful and effectual days of walking out the purposes of God in our lives.

When Will They be Afraid?
Could it be that terrorists may not be afraid of our nation because our nation has not kept the commandments of the Lord God and walked in His ways? When the peoples of the earth see that we are called by the name of the LORD, they will fear us. Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Just quoting the Bible: Deut.28:9-10,Amp—“The Lord will establish you as a people holy [and set apart] to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the Lord your God and walk [that is, live your life each and every day] in His ways. 10 So all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will be afraid of you.” Prov.14:34,Amp— “Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people.”

Too Big for one Moment
MELISSA—It’s making sense now why we don’t see many signs, wonders and miracles. We have lived so long under and believed the rules of engagement of an evil agenda. As disgusting as this is, let me say it like this, we have basically had a relationship with this evil agenda causing us to operate under man’s wisdom that has been shaped by the fear this agenda produces to the point that we have almost been completely sterilized by it. Who knew how massive the deception had become? This is why this awakening is coming in phases and not all in one event. It’s too big for one moment. The rules of engagement change when my relationship is with my King and not the enticing spirit of the age. When my identity comes from relationship with Him I don’t live by society’s rules on life, love and prosperity. I live by Kingdom rules. The intensity has cranked up but it’s leading to a Kingdom of God invasion through those that engage to win.

A King Who Rules in Righteousness
As the people of God assemble today, may they rejoice in the God of their salvation for He has provided us a King who rules in righteousness (Isa.32:1). May they practice the wisdom of seeking Him. “…Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a king was their intent…” “Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.” Gal.4:4-5—“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.”

The Singing Christmas Tree
My father pastored for more than 22 years in Houston, TX. He loved Christmas time and enjoyed planning Christmas events and activities for the church and the community. Several years we had a thirty foot tall (made of scaffolding and live Christmas trees) “Singing Christmas Tree” in the parking lot of our church and it was advertised on radio and in
newspapers. I had the privilege of being at the very top and played “Silent Night” on my trumpet (accompanied by Kathy on the Hammond organ) at the end of the program. The music could be heard all over that business district and adjoining neighborhood on Jensen Drive.
We helped needy families with food and gifts and ministered at the men’s shelter at the mission in downtown Houston. But there was one very special night of the year. It was always the Sunday night right before Christmas. People who only came once a year would attend at Christmas. A few who felt unworthy (because of their long absence from church attendance) tentatively entered the auditorium right at starting time hoping there were a few seats remaining vacant so that they might once more feel the warmth of the hearts that lifted in glorious carols recounting the birth of the Christ Child who still brought them hope, and they hoped that the anointing upon the special time of gathering would reach even them once again so they might experience the sense of its cleansing, the sense of belonging and being accepted in the beloved. Many families brought a visitor or two. Everyone dressed up.
The auditorium glowed with golden candlelight which would only convey the merest fraction of the golden warmth of the presence of Holy Spirit upon the evening’s message about the Son of God. There would be many a tear shed on this night of celebration. The pastor knew this was going to be a great time to give people the opportunity to ask this Savior, Who was born in a manger, into their hearts – as the choir sang one more verse of “Silent Night” and then the old chorus “Come Into my Heart”. All the players were in the old auditorium checking their costumes to make sure they were just right and reciting their lines to make sure they would properly communicate their portion of the Christmas story. In the main auditorium everyone was abuzz with excitement mixed with awe and reverence anticipating what they were about to see and hear. Musicians checked their instruments to make sure they were in tune while choir members and soloists warmed up their voices and double-checked the lyrics on song sheets (even though some had scribbled out lyrics on little bits of paper stuck up their sleeves, hoping the choir director did not notice). Teachers and directors were corralling children hoping to organize them into their respective groups and go over their lines just once more, while consoling themselves that a partial or damaged costume was better than none at all, and being thankful that they took the pastor’s wife’s advice and brought a large doll to fill in for the “little Jesus” who came down with colic at the last minute. Yet, all in all, that wondrous Sunday night just before Christmas was always said to be “the best one yet” and everyone felt they had participated in the worship of the Christ whose name was Emmanuel. However, everyone knew that pastor’s dismissal prayer was not really the last item expected on that once-a-year night.
There was one activity that my Father took particular delight in. He loved to greet the people, shake the peoples’ hands and hand out the goody bags as they walked out the door. On the Friday before that Christmas Sunday, my Father and I would go to a discount house in the Heights area of Houston not far from downtown. We got a flat cart and proceeded to load it with apples, oranges, Snickers, Hershey bars and mixed nuts still in their shells. Our house smelled wonderful as the odors of fruit and chocolate wafted their way through the whole house. My Father, my sisters and I spent all Saturday afternoon filling the brown paper goody bags. The deacons hefted the heavy duty boxes of goody bags into the auditorium next to the main exit only after the dismissal prayer. The children were always the first to get to the exit and in line in front of Brother Gabler as he blessed each one and joyfully handed out the tasty treats. If an aunt or uncle or grandparent was unable to attend the special Christmas service, the attending relative walked out the door with several goody bags and a special message from my Father to the absentees.
As I sit here tonight and write these memories, I can still see (through misty eyes) and hear the sounds of the people and even smell the fruit and chocolate. I am thankful for all those memories for they represent people of God who impacted my life/ministry. It’s not the events but it is the people who were the life and activity of those events which make those memories so precious. Thanks be to God for the wonderful gift of relationships that keep on giving through our memories.
Kathy and I pray you have a most blessed Christmas with the presence of people who redemptively impact your life and imprint your heart and mind with warm, loving memories.
Our love and prayers,
Marty and Kathy

A Child and a Kingdom
MELISSA — Here’s a reminder in the busyness of the season. Unto us a child was born Who established a Kingdom that has never stopped increasing. I Shall Continue to Pray for Miracles
KATHY — Miracles are begun in grace and perfected in glory. They start with God’s supernatural enabling and come to complete manifestation through His intent and purpose and timing. As I wait on God, I shall continue to pray for miracles this Christmas season because the coming of the Christ is still in effect as well as God’s goodwill toward men. May His presence and power and purpose and timing change your life as His goodwill touches the earth again.

We Don’t Have to Understand the Process
Melissa— It came to me that to actually trust God meant to actually let go of needing to know the process of getting to an answer. I’ve never functioned like that. Unfortunately my M.O. has been to ask and believe for a God-outcome while all along fixating on my logic’s only conclusion as to how that could happen. That, my friends, will WEAR. YOU. OUT. In that moment it felt good, it felt right to let go, and something in me took a deep breath for the first time.

God’s Plans Make Nobodies Into Key Players
KATHY — Growing up on Abraham Avenue, Zacharias, Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary had no idea how they would fit in the plans of God & the history of man. Amid all their lessons in history and prophecy from the Torah, they had never pictured themselves as key players in the greatest story ever told. However, their lives were divinely positioned for the plans of God. God intends your life to be spent to His glory. (Jer.29:11)

God Almighty has Provided a Savior
As the people of God assemble today may they open their hearts and mouths and sing joyous praises to their God because He has provided a Savior. “Joy to the world the Lord is come.” “Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord and joyfully celebrate His mighty acts, for great is the glory of the Lord.” (Ps.138:5, Amp)

Start Recording a new History for Your Family
When faced with unexpected adversity in Numbers 21, unbelief spread throughout the Israelite camp like an epidemic and that resulted in fear, weeping and complaining. Giants and the terrible inhabitants of Canaan seemed too foreboding to resist. The land of milk and honey was no longer inviting to them. For the last 19 or 20 generations, Israel only had a physical history of slavery and were willing to walk back into that slavery if it meant they would have to part ways with the known and familiar. Start your own spiritual history no matter what your family history has been. Physical lack and/or physical infirmity may be all the history some families have to date. You be the one who refuses to walk back and embrace that old history. You be the one to break the cycle. Isa.43:18-19,Amp—“Do not remember the former things, Or ponder the things of the past. 19 “Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.

The Currents of Life and Adjusting
MELISSA — I don’t know of anyone who is not going through something right now. Whether it be physical chaos, doors shutting, relational tensions, or the currents of life, there seems to be something of a strained nature going on everywhere you look (I won’t even list the nation’s woes). There is such a vast array of things happening but each thing is very personal to the one facing it. A couple of months ago the Lord told me I had been stationed in a particular place as a watchman but that season was almost over. Hmm, OK. What does that mean? Then about a month later, as clear as can be, I heard Him say, “Your life is about to change drastically.” After I heard this I got so excited deep down in my core but my soul, not so much! My soul went a little crazy, “WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!!!!” I had to calm myself down knowing that God is not the type to give you a mysterious clue that your life is about to fall apart and I had to stand firmly on Psalm 37:23—“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”

Get Trouble off the Porch
Kathy Gabler—Condemnation will make it almost impossible for us to be corrected. Correction requires trusting someone else’s decision or opinion. Correction requires being willing to change where necessary. Trust in God will get trouble off the porch.(Ps.37:39) Trust is a guard against condemnation.(Jn.5:24) Trust will overcome your past.(Ps.34:2) Trust is a weapon that defeats condemnation.

Next Stage, Next Phase
In speaking of Getting Ready for the Next Level it would behoove us to consider some basic meaning in that title. NEXT LEVEL: next step, next move, following step, what follows, next on the list, next stage, next phase, what comes next, follow-up, further action, future action, next in order. Getting Ready: Faith, stepping out, moving toward (not satisfied with status quo, with where we are, with just letting things bump along as is), not the same old attitude; not staying in the same rut. Ex.14:13-16,Amp—“Moses told the people, Fear not; stand still (firm, confident, undismayed) and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today. For the Egyptians you have seen today you shall never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest. 15 The Lord said to Moses, Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward!” The time is ripe for going forward to the next level, to that which beckons us onward to victory.
