Stir up the Fire
Ashes aren’t pretty and they don’t smell good but sometimes you must stir around for awhile in the ash pile before you find an ember. When you do, blow it into flame and feed it. If God has put a gift in you or a vision or dream in your heart, it is still there though it may only be an ember covered up by the ashes of a spent fire. Feelings of unworthiness may prompt you to say, “Oh, but there may not even be an ember left because the original fire was built so long ago.” Let Paul’s urgency reach you. Patiently and persistently stir and feed the fire to flame! Stir it with sturdy sticks of Scripture and knowledge that “God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable (Rom.11:29).” Fan it with dreams that God put in your heart no matter how long ago. Feed it with latent hopes that you have laid aside as just so much scrap. Feed it with faith and desire and the knowledge that what our Lord has promised, He is able to perform.
