Like a Child

The parents were sitting in the kitchen going over their finances and planning the family vacation coming up in five months. The little boy was walking down the hall past the kitchen door. As he passed, all he heard were the words “OK then, we’re going to Disney World”. He picked up his pace BoySwimMaskand headed straight for his bedroom. After an hour or so the parents decided it was bedtime and headed down the hall. They stopped at their little boy’s room to check in on him. He was sitting on the edge of the bed, laying over on his over-stuffed zipper bag, fast asleep with his swim mask on his head and wearing his Mickey Mouse t-shirt. He had heard something that filled him with anticipation and that anticipation had him prepared to get under way. Mk.10:15-“…Whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” This is not declaring to us that we have to be like a child to go to heaven. It is talking about seeing the authority, power, rule and active sovereignty of God because we have childlike anticipation for participating in God’s Kingdom agenda and activity.

Ready to Resurrect

The fact that you need to change your thinking in some part of your life is not an indictment against SkyRedSunriseyou! The simple truth is that without repentance, there is no change and without change there is no overcoming contradictions that keep affecting your life and your legacy. In the vision (several posts back) of that man being resurrected out of contradiction, he started in a death lock and was getting nowhere. That right there was a contradiction to the will of God, but he not only rose up to move on, he rose up and broke free of the smothering consequences and effects and residue of contradiction that were piled on his life in those layers of dirt. We can choose to overcome contradictions in our lives that have hindered us and troubled us too much and too long. Beyond that, God is also ready to supernaturally resurrect us out of the damage they’ve done to us! Our Redeemer is Resurrection and Life! He intends to restore what was lost under siege. His good plans are powerful and precious and within reach. So let’s become who we were born to be and do what we were born to do for His Glory! The Road I Must Travel

RoadManWalkAs the people of God assemble today, may He use our instructors to clearly point out the path for us to walk on. May we hear and see all the truths, directions and wise instructions that bring us to the path of Light so that we may go victoriously throughout our lives displaying the worth and value of a life lived according to the unfailing Word of God. May unbelievers observe and inquire about the road that Jesus pioneered for us.

“. . . Point out the road I must travel; I’m all ears, all eyes before you.” (Ps.143:8, Msg)

Placeholder

HoldingParkingSpotIn your daily faithfulness to God, you might just be a placeholder for someone else. You may be standing between someone and their destruction and, were you not there, they might just move into that thing or that relationship or that distress that prevents their getting to destiny. Moses was a placeholder for Joshua. Elijah was a placeholder for Elisha and Paul was a placeholder for Timothy. It is like being the shoulders that someone else gets to stand on and start out on. Our ceiling is their floor. You are a placeholder for your children and very possibly even for others.
1Cor.16:13 ”Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong.” May you discover daily God’s purposes in your life.

Issues on the Doorstep

(KG) Cain didn’t recognize the threat on his porch until God told him, “Cain, Sin is crouching at your door.” God was not saying, “You have a ticket to hell on the porch, PorchStepsBoy.” God wasn’t writing him off. He was warning Cain that he had a personal issue on his doorstep that would trip him up. It was a behavior pattern of messing up and then being offended about it. That thing would crouch on his porch and dictate his life if he didn’t master it.   Cain had a call to repentance, a call to think differently and change so that he could overcome a contradiction before it overcame him, but he didn’t and it did.   Cain’s thinking did not change and the contradicting behavior pattern of offense and anger drove him into a rage and he killed his brother.

Name of Jesus Powerful

JesusHealLameIn the next few days and weeks I believe you will find the name of Jesus to be very powerful in your life and your environment — if you will call upon His name, “Jesus”, see Him heal, watch as He delivers others out of impossible strongholds of bondage and fear. Say His name and see how marvelously He delivers you from the threat of harm, even from bullies. The children’s ministers at our church have taught them to declare, “The name of Jesus is my super power”. In Acts 3:16 (Amp) Peter declared: ”And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man…”  May you discover more of the power of the name of Jesus this week.

Overcoming the Snake on Your Porch

Sometimes these contradictions are obvious, like when I walked out on the porch and a snake was on my porch. That thing had crawled up on SnakeOnPorchto the roof ledge of a second story porch!  It was a very loud contradiction to my plans and future.  (I knew it was a personal  issue because I was the only one home.)  One of the symbolic meanings of a snake is “a threat to the future,” and sure enough, one of us had to die that day!  However, some personal contradictions are not as obvious, even on our porch, because they are always there and we don’t see them as a threat to our future purpose and fulfillment and destiny.  Contradictions on your porch can be from old wounds and memories that haven’t faded and still cause fear or anger or discouragement.  They linger like a cloud on your porch waiting to come and go with you.  Contradictions to your purpose can come from family traits like anger or pride or being judgmental. You don’t notice them because they have always been there. The  fact that you need to change your thinking in some part of your life is not an indictment against you!  The simple truth is that without repentance,  there is no change and without change there is no overcoming contradictions that keep affecting your life and your legacy.

Don’t put oil in the Dishpan

SinkDishpanThe guy hurried from the garage to the kitchen brushing past his wife who was just coming out of the laundry room. Grabbing her dishpan, he headed back out to the garage without so much as a howdy do. “Where do you think you are going with my new dishpan?”, the wife demanded. Obviously on a mission, the husband yelled over his shoulder, “To change the oil in my pickup!” Even more vehemently and quickly headed in his direction, she yelled back, “Not with my good dishpan, you’re not!” at which point he demanded to know why not. She firmly replied, “Because that pan is sanctified! It is sanctified for dishwashing and nothing else!” In Josh.3:5, Joshua’s instruction to the people of Israel was “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”  He well might have been instructing them to separate themselves from things like cynicism, unbelief, opinions of others, past disappointment or from anger. Anger and disappointment are anticipation busters. Joshua did not suggest the Israelites find a knock-em-down prayer line to get in. He instructed that they sanctify themselves. Sometimes we fail to sanctify ourselves today and end up wondering why we don’t get to experience God’s wonders tomorrow.

Overcoming Contradictions

ContradictionsIf your health or finances or circumstances contradict your God-design and purpose and future, His will is that you overcome those contradictions.   So this boils down to two things in my thinking:  1) we need  to recognize the contradictions in our life and 2) we need to know that overcoming them will involve changing our thinking and choices.  I’m not talking about contradictions coming at us from Washington D.C. or CNN or TBN or our boss.  I’m talking about up close and personal, on-our-own-front-porch stuff that is hindering our purpose and future. The simple truth is that without repentance,  there is no change and without change there is no overcoming contradictions that keep affecting our life and our legacy.

Hearts of Fathers to Children

FatherProdigalSonAs the people of God assemble today, may hearts of fathers be turned to the coming generation. May fathers in our congregations discern the potential of the youth around them and let their hearts be turned to affirming them, encouraging them and enabling them on to their destiny in Christ. May this be the most memorable Father’s Day with fathers and children turned to each other in love and in honor, grasping the heavenly Father’s heart for the generations to glorify His intent.

“May the Lord richly bless both you and your children.” (Ps.115:14, TLB)
