Where do You Get a Promise?

Where or how do you get the promise of God? All I know is that one day I suddenly came to the realization that, over time, God has given me certain promises. Knowing the desires of my heart in prayer and meditation on His Word, God has given promises at those times also. But most often it has been like little discoveries, one here and one there. It’s something like, “I have God’s assurance on ‘that.’ It’s already done!”  Some promises include the fact that He will work in and through me to bring about the promise. Others, He has worked in persons and situations in such a way that all I could do was just stand back and be amazed (cf.Rom.4:20-21). There is an overall promise and purpose and as I have walked in it I have received other promises, some of which have already been realized.  “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” (Rom.4:20-21, NKJV)  (From Marty Gabler’s book “Sheep Have Short Legs”.)
