Beyond Skills to Purpose
David was sent by his father to check on his brothers who had gone to war. When David came up over the top of the mountain and saw the scope of what was in the valley below, he could have easily concluded that this ordeal was none of his concern. It did not appear that David had any abilities or skills or protocol to deal with this escalated national problem. The lesson we take away from this bit of Israel’s history (as in numerous others) is that we should never forget to factor in God’s purpose and power. Zech.4:6, CEV — “So the angel explained that it was the following message of the Lord to Zerubbabel: I am the Lord All-Powerful. So don’t depend on your own power or strength, but on my Spirit.”
