Frustrating Being Disconnected
The cell phone ad that presents a scenario of two young adults who have just met and, seemingly, believe there may be a future to their relationship, draws the viewers into the frustration and angst of being disconnected. The young man haltingly
presents his guarded feelings as he says, “I felt there was a connection between us when last we saw each other. Do you feel the same way?” Just as he finishes his anxious query, the cell phone signal drops to nothing and though she is delighted to hear how he feels and begins her positive response to him, she is not heard…. only silence. The silence on the other end of the line confirms his worst fears of rejection. The ad further brings the viewers to the firm conclusion that they do not ever want to be in that situation where communication is lost and, possibly, even relationship. The underlying message is that a portion of the future could be lost if one does not have the proper product which prevents disconnection.
No matter how soothing the silence on the other end of the line, it is most frustrating to get disconnected. Valuable time and money, important information and the ability to accomplish and resolve tasks are at stake. Needless to say, it is of the utmost importance to be properly connected to the right party…. and to stay connected.
