Keep Awake

Watching documentaries on TV about special forces, it is apparent that those soldiers go about their daily business in a very watchful manner. They are constantly looking about for anything that might possibly be a trap or a detriment to their mission. Eyes are constantly moving to discover an IED, a trip wire or even an Infra Red beam that might set off an explosive. Those warriors remain vigilant or they pay a heavy price. That is likely the reason they walk out alive.

Concerning matters of our soul and our mandate, we must be vigilant. Peter urged believers to be sober and vigilant. Vigilant means “to keep awake; to watch.” I believe the urgency of the message calls for us to think along the lines of  “always” or even “constantly” because there is an enemy intent on our destruction. But we shall keep awake and watch… all day, every day that we not be taken in a trap.

“Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.” (1Pe.5:8, Amp)
